Scientology Leader Shows His True Crazy On “Nightline”

This weekend, “Nightline” ran a special on everyone’s favorite topic, the insanity of the Church of Scientology. The whole thing was actually pretty boring. (Martin Bashir interviews drive me crazy. Why does he insist on doing the crinkled brow, “I’m really listening to you” thing, followed by repeating what the person just said with faux shock?) Until minute 3:40 of the clip above, where Bashir asks Scientology mouthpiece Tommy Davis (who runs the Celebrity Centre in Hollywood), “Do you believe that a galactic emperor named Xenu brought his people to earth 75 million years ago and buried them in volcanoes?” Davis gets upset. “I am not going to discuss disgusting perversions of Scientology beliefs that can be found commonly on the internet ... If you’re gonna ask me about volcanoes and this kind of thing, I will stand up and walk out.” Which he then does, dramatically throwing off his mic. But wait, I find it interesting that, out of all the nuttiness in that question, he found the part about volcanoes the most insulting? I so don’t get this “religion.” [Gawker]

wtf, you would think if he finds whatever on the internet offensive he would do his best to clarify and help people understand better.

Oh come now…

Is Scientology any crazier than Christianity, Mormonism, Islam or Judaism, or are we just more aware of how crazy it is because it was created in a less gullible and more scientifically advanced era of human existence?

It has exactly the same validity of any other religion that human beings have ever invented; it hinges entirely your faith and trust in the humans who claim to be divinely inspired to author their texts and doctrines.

@Oreo - //are we just more aware of how crazy it is because it was created in a less gullible and more scientifically advanced era of human existence?//

This has my vote, also the part where it’s widely known and accepted that it was made up by a science-fiction writer.  Otherwise, agreed!

On a side note, regardless of my opinions on Scientology, I hardly regard the behavior of the gentleman at the end of the video as “crazy.”

He told the interviewer twice that he found the question offensive and that he refused to answer.  After the second time, the Scientologist stated that the interview would be over if the question were asked again.  It seems that the interviewer pounced on the opportunity to get a viral video-worthy clip by antagonizing the Scientologist into making good on the threat.

Sasha Baron Cohen has made a career out of antagonizing leaders and members of various religions into much more embarrassing responses to interviews than this.

Being a long time Scientologist in the past, I can tell you that volcanoes were not the cause of him leaving. It was the word Xenu. It is a high crime to say that word and if you watch the video at the moment that Zenu was said was the time Tommy Boy left. You will never hear a Scientologist in good standing say “Xenu.” It is one of the most severe offenses they have.

@Oreo @Joyy

Please don’t be distracted by the “beliefs”. No one who is critical of the Cult-I mean-the Church of Scientoloy cares what they believe. While their absurd beliefs and their extra secretive nature about them can be utilized to highlight how bizarre the entire organization as a whole is, what Anonymous, the critics, and former members care about are the crimes.

Human trafficking, slave labor, child labor, brainwashing, blackmail, using litigation to silence critics, the list goes on and on. Do some research and see why so many people are getting riled up.

“It has exactly the same validity of any other religion that human beings have ever invented; it hinges entirely your faith and trust in the humans who claim to be divinely inspired to author their texts and doctrines.”

Hardly. The entire organization is focused around control and indoctrination. Every aspect of the cult is designed to reprogram you slowly to accept what you’re told and even develop a doublethink mentality where the cult is always right.
Head over to RantRave.com and visit any os the Scientology-related rants to watch the end results of their brainwashing as TerryEO is continually caught in doubletalk or outright lies.

“He told the interviewer twice that he found the question offensive and that he refused to answer.”

Fascinating. So an interview ABOUT the religion, as part of a SERIES on the religion, should not include a question about the core fundamental BELIEFS of the religion to the SPOKESPERSON of the religion?
