Scientific Study: Do You Have What Men Want?

What Attracts A Man

Let’s get science-y. I read this study today about how women can be attracted to a number of different things, physically. (I am assuming this study was done in the US or some western European country). Men, on the other hand, are attracted to mainly the same things and no, the answer is not “vagina” as my boyfriend so helpfully put it when I asked him if he knew what physical characteristics all men liked.

The overall message was that men like women who are thin and seductive. On a related note, there should literally be a book of obvious studies done. Do you know how many come out each year? You’ll see headlines like “Swallowing more than one magnet extremely dangerous” and “It’s confusing to drive in Germany.” Yes, we know this. My problem with this current study is threefold. I am pretty sure that’s a word. Continue reading…

Scientific answer: No.
Looks like I’m scientifically screwed.

“Seductive”? Sounds very scientific.

Yeah, I guess all those men who keep hitting on me must have bad eyesight. I’m short and fat, but I wear nice clothes, always fashionable, my clothes are flattering to my shape, I always wear make-up and have my hair done. I think these studies don’t take into account what happens when you talk to someone and become attracted on what the Author called “awesomeness” which is actually really important and is what really attracts people. Yes I would love to jump sexy Gerard Butlers bones, you know the one I mean, but like I’m actually more attracted to my hairy Italian boyfriend because of his personality. Men similar to women also place an amount of their liking someone on their personality, it’s not all based on body and seduction, if it was they would never be with anybody. I think this study is bull and is an excuse for some men to be shallow.

This study has some truth to it..but I think the true parts of it are that men (unknowingly) are attracted to women who are more fertile, who will live longer, etc—it’s all based on survival of the fittest. Because more fertile women will carry on the man’s genes and traits for awhile. But when you throw in looks, personality, etc, there are a lot of other reasons for attraction and compatibility.

I guess I’m just getting tired of all these studies and articles that seem to absolve men of any responsibility or need for maturity.  You can’t spit without hitting an article that says men are hard wired to cheat, to look at other women, to want strippers, to not care about personality, to be basically as unevolved as humanly possible without reverting back into a chimp.  I know men who run with it and feel totally justified in continuing their careers as man whores, and mature responsible men who are tired of being portrayed as if they have no self control and the emotional depth of a puddle.

@bumbler- You took the words right out of my mouth!  If some men want to justify being jerks and continue to point to “scientific evidence” for their need to engage in “caveman” behavior, then fine.  And there are going to be some women who are attracted to that and will put up with it and excuse such behavior and even cite such “scientific” nonsense.  Eveyone makes mistakes. You either learn from them or keep getting bitten. C’est la vie.
