Scary Spice Gets Hypnotized To Conquer Stage Fright. Does It Work?
Does anything scare the mess out of Scary Spice, aka Melanie Brown? Seems she was terrified to show her sexy side for her new Las Vegas burlesque extravaganza, “Peepshow,” so Mel had a friend hypnotize her into staying cool during the show. But does it work? [People]
Absolutely, says Mel. Just check her out in the photo from opening night.
How does hypnosis work?
No one knows exactly, but here’s the leading theory. By relaxing you, hypnotists are able to tame the left side of your brain—the center of reasoning, logic, and conscious thought—and put your right brain, homebase for creativity and automatic responses like breathing, in the driver’s seat. Putting you in this trance-like state makes you ultra-susceptible to suggestions. [HowStuffWorks]
Lots of hypnotists run stage shows—either in Vegas or on the college circuit. (Flashback to the show I saw freshman year, with the hypnotist having some random girl squawk like a chicken. It got way stranger when he told her to have an orgasm on stage. Creepy.) But there are many more practical applications of the process:
- Want to stop smoking or kick that fried chicken habit? Hypnotism has been shown decent results with both. [Scientific American] — Not that we think you should give up the latter.
- Hypnotism can also help folks with overwhelming phobias—like those who are deathly afraid of flying or birds. [HowStuffWorks] — Maybe it could make us less scared of the Spice Girls’ outfits?
- It can even be used for medicinal purposes—some doctors hypnotize patients so they won’t feel as much pain. [Scientific American] — Kinda like marijuana. Not that we’re advocating.
- And then there’s forensic hypnotism, where investigators can use hypnosis to pull out memories from suspects and witnesses. This is still way controversial in the law enforcement world. [HowStuffWorks] — Plus, it would make “Law & Order” episodes much shorter, which is not a good thing.
What would you want to be hypnotized to do?

the hypnotists that you see in vegas are verrryyyy different than people that practice hypnosis for the things you mentioned. i use to get hypnotized before every chemo treatment i had so that the chemo would attack the bad cells and leave the good ones alone, i wouldn’t lose my hair, i wouldn’t get sick and i would still be able to have children later. it all worked for me. if you can find a good hypnosis i highly recommend it. i also used it to get over my fear of shots and getting my blood taken. my dad did it to stop smoking and my mom did it for anxiety issues.

I think it’s also pretty important to remember the placebo effect is a pretty strong thing.

What’s funny is you don’t know what a tramp stamp is LOL
And I happen to enjoy scary spice being scary,(though my favorite was always baby spice) and my red clown hair thank you
LOL. What I think is funny is sad little internet trolls living at momma’s house that have nothing better to do on a Saturday night other than insult people on the internet that they don’t even know LOL

1. A tramp stamp is a tattoo on the lower back.
LOL.
2. I have a college education and don’t live with my parents.
3. Why the hell would I be entering menopause at 22? What’s funny is you know nothing about women.
4. I’m fit and hot as hell and you’re just pissed cause you have no qualities that any woman would want
5. I just got home from WORK. Maybe you should try getting a job
6. I think your momma is done cooking dinner, better get your butt to the dining room!
7.You’re going to die cold, alone and a virgin.

@jacks: If anyone here is angry at men, you’re just proving them right.

I wouldn’t mind be hypnotized, just to see if it actually works; I’m skeptical.
As for this thread mess ^: jacks, I hope you don’t think your anger is really going to affect the rest of our lives on here. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

I actually got hypnotized for my migraines. I really didn’t think it would help much, because my prescriptions weren’t helping. It didn’t get rid of them completely, but I have far fewer ones. I’m surprised and happy with the results.

I would consider hypnosis, although depending on what for, as it is often associated with relapses: For example, smokers who have used hypnotherapy will quit, but relapse.
I don’t know if Bo Selecta hit the states, but youtube Bo Selecta Scary Spice and that is why I cannot even begin to think about Mel B doing a burlesque routine.
^I don’t know whats going on up there but I think some heavy multiple personality-based self hatin’ is going down :S
