Scarlett Johansson Teams Up With Pete Yorn In A New Music Video
It seems Scarlett Johansson is the go-to Hollywood starlet for music videos these days. First, there was the video she made with Bob Dylan for his single, “When The Deal Goes Down,” in which she was featured in a “montage of sixties-style home movie clips.” Then, she starred in Justin Timberlake’s music video for his single, “What Goes Around Comes Around,” in which she’s a blond bombshell Timberlake spends the duration of the video seducing. Now, Scarlett joins Pete Yorn in a video for the single “Relator,” from their collaborative album, “Break Up.”
In this newest video, ScarJo channels Brigitte Bardot, an idea Pete Yorn says came to him in a dream. “I was like, Scarlett Johansson could be the Brigitte Bardot type. So I reached out to her and she was into it, and we did it.” The New York Daily News reports that “Break Up” is “inspired by French singer/songwriter Serge Gainsbourg, who worked with Bardot on a series of duets for her 1968 album, Bonnie and Clyde.” [via Buzz Feed and NY Daily News]

I heard her AOL live sessions and she’s an AWFUL singer!! She’s gorgeous and I love her movies but she can’t sing worth $hit!! She should stick with what she’s good at. I don’t know what they did to her voice to make it sound even remotely decent but hey…that music video magic for ya…

She has such an awesome voice and has collaborated with extremely talented people. She’s not pop at all… very indie and dark, if you like that.

I think she sounds awful! She’s trying so hard to be Zooey Deschanel but she’s not nearly as talented or adorable.

Yes her voice is dark and indie. It’s just okay. But my problem with her voice is that she does not enunciate her words enough. I hate when singers do that.

She has a decent voice if employed minimally. But her attempt to cover one of the most distinctive and interesting voices in recorded history (Tom Waits) was a spectacular disaster. I will never, ever, ever forgive her for what she did to “Anywhere I Lay My Head”. That song is going to play at my funeral. I have to now make sure my will explicitly lists the original Waits version so I don’t get sent to the hereafter with the warbling synth pop of her craptastic version.
