Saturday Night Live Hires/Fires The Ladies

Hey, so you know how last week we were all, “Yippee! ‘Saturday Night Live’ has added two new lady cast members!”? Well today, I’m all, “Oh crap, they fired Casey Wilson and Michaela Watson?” Broadsheet wonders, “Does ‘SNL’ have a lady quota?” Good question.

So here’s the lowdown. Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedrad were just added to the cast, which, for, like, half a second, brought the “SNL” estrogen tally up to six (including Kristen Wiig, Casey Wilson, Michaela Watson, and Abby Elliot). Then we found out Wilson and Watson got the ax, which I guess is understandable because Watson sucked—seriously, her Hoda Kotb impression stunk next to Wiig’s Kathie Lee—and Casey Wilson is better off writing awesome rom-coms like “Bride Wars” (yeah, I said it!). But still, is the ratio of male-to-female cast members on “SNL” ever going to be equal? And may we suggest Current’s own Sarah Haskins as a possible contender?

In happier news, however, “SNL” has announced that Seth Meyers has FINALLY got a co-host for “Weekend Update”—Kristen Wiig. Guess she’ll continue to rule each and every skit going forward. Would there be an “SNL” without this chick? Seriously.

It’s a shame about Casey Wilson, I really loved her.

More than anything, they need to diversify the men and the women. SNL does not have a good history in terms of representing minorities, specifically female minorities.

Ask Janeane Garafolo. She was pretty outspoken about SNL’s policies regarding women cast members back in 1994.

@PinkRanger,
I totally agree! That’s why I think I should be on SNL!!! I’m a female minority, and can do any effing impression you ask! seriously. I can do any accent, I think I got some jokes up my sleeves too. I just love impersonating people and making them laugh, If I wasn’t stuck at this stupid office job and actually knew where to audition, I would go. I’m really good at impersonating gangsters, asians, black people, mexicans, all the good stereotypes.

Whaaaat?! I was just stating to love Casey Wilson. Hopefully she keeps on writing, Bride Wars is a cool movie.

I liked Seth by himself. He’s not in anything else. I wish he was in more sketches.

I think Michaela just needed some more time. Biiiitch, pleeeezzze! However, if the same “lameness” rule applies to the guys, then why is Kenan Thompson wasting so much time and space? Bobby Moynihan needs to step up and take his slots.
SNL does need a bigger woman quota, though. How I miss Rachel Dratch, Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler! Oh, and Cheri Oteri! I loves me some Cheri Oteri!

Janeane, I think is doing just fine without SNL, though. She’s still got her momentum. I’d love to see her team up with David Cross sometime. That would be something else.
