Romance 2.0: Dude Proposes To Girlfriend On Twitter
Dudes, don’t take any cues from Drew Olanoff. The Twitter user, who apparently is known for starting the Twitter campaign “#blamedrewscancer” after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, proposed to his girlfriend via Twitter. Sarah Cooley said yes, but we wouldn’t blame her for being pissed that he asked for her hand in marriage in such a public way—and not even in person! [Mashable]

Some people might think it’s improper or disrespectful, but I think it’s tweet.

ahaha oh groan _jsw_ lol
ick…is this for real, or are they just cyber-flirting/joking? If my boyfriend proposed to me via twitter (which neither of us have because ITS DUMB AND POINTLESS) then that would be a flat no. Lets not be lazy with the proposals gentlemen.

I wouldn’t want to be proposed to on Twitter, but I guess if you’re both techies, it could be kind of sweet?

Although it is definitely different, I think women’s expectations for “a unique and elaborate proposal” is ridiculous. Can’t women just be happy that their boyfriend proposes in the first place? I feel like too many women are still looking for their prince charming and the romantic fairy tale. Just get over it and embrace the love…but proposing in such a public place like Twitter is a little awkward, I feel.

It’s not about making the guy through these extravegant motions to propose to have a “fairy tale” proposal, I just want to know that yeah, my boyfriend really thinks this is a big deal and its special and deserves a little effort/show, not just twitter it while hes sitting around or say “so, will you marry me?” as we’re watching reruns one night.

There was a show in the 1970s (yes, I am that old) called “Love American Style”, which once aired a skit about a man proposing over a revolutionary communications platform called a telephone. The point was then, as it still is now, that despite advances in technology, some things are better done in person.
So ladies, if you are going to propose to a man, please do it in person. Bosses, hiring and firing should be done in person, not via twitter or email. Vendors, if you want to close the deal, fly out to see me. Employees, if you are going to quit, storm into my office and tell me off. Throw a tomato if you have to. But be present. It is all we really want from each other anyway, isn’t it?
Life is about relationships, not transactions. If you care enough to make an effort, I promise, I’ll tweet it out.
