How To Rock A Headscarf A La The Marni Runway

marni milan fashion show

While designers in New York and London were sculpting elaborate hairdos this year at Fashion Week, Marni went the opposite route by covering it all up—just goes to show you that you that sometimes revealing less is sexier. At the designer’s summer 2010 runway show in Milan, models sported bright, printed headscarves and chunky jewelry, giving off a jet-set vibe that we’re dying to try out ourselves. While it’s probably not a look you can wear to the office (unless you have a casual/stylish work zone like The Frisky does!), a Marni-inspired headscarf style would be great for weekend wear (bring on the large sunglasses) or going out (we’re thinking skinny jeans, a clutch, and some vintage jewelry).

Find out how to wrap it up after the jump!

  1. Get a scarf. Obvi. While a classic Hermès would be great with this style, we’re not exactly Miss Moneybags over here. We found these wonderfully colorful vintages scarves (pictured above) from Etsy seller Skinny and Bernie for less than $20. [Etsy]
  2. Prep with product. To get the look, Marni’s hairstylist Paul Hanlon used TIGI Bedhead Cream. Try applying the product to your fingertips and twisting the ends of your hair to make it piecey and messy. [$15.68, Target.com]
  3. Make a messy bun or leave the bottom half of your hair down. To tie the scarf, you can create a perfect triangle or one that’s slightly asymmetrical to get a more dynamic shape, then secure with a side bow. Release strands around your forehead, ears, and nape of the neck. Voilà! Now where did that cabana boy go?
