Rumors Fly That Rihanna Will Be Testifying FOR Chris Brown
I’m so over this Chris Brown/Rihanna drama, but the scandal may finally be coming to a rest, but not without more sadness. It was reported that the pop princess was seen all over Miami with Brown, which led to speculation that she forgave him and wanted to work things out. If that act alone wasn’t a big step for Rihanna, now she’s going above and beyond what any alleged abuse victim should be doing. Supposedly, Rihanna has agreed to speak to the prosecutors on Chris’ behalf. She doesn’t want Chris getting in any more trouble than he’s already in, and if need be, will admit to “her part” in the incident. WTF?! An anonymous source says that Chris Brown and the L.A. prosecutors are extremely close to a plea deal. According to that insider, Chris would plead no contest to misdemeanor domestic battery and receive no jail time. Wow. Does Rihanna not remember what her face looked like after Chris (allegedly) hit her? I hope she knows what she’s doing. But at only 21, I doubt it. [Newsguru]

Where are her parents!? I know she is an adult and all… but shouldn’t they step in at this point and do their best to stop her from making what could be a life threatening choice? Most abusers don’t change and 33% of women murdered in the US are killed by their “intimate partner.”

As a woman in my early 20s I’m slightly irked by that last sentence. Excuse me, but at any age a girl should know what she’s doing. Just because she’s 21 doesn’t mean she’s [allowed to be] an idiot. Hell, at 18 a girl should know what she’s doing and should not only know what the right thing to do is in this situation, but DO IT.

Who is prosecuting Chris Brown? I’m not sure how US law works, but if she doesn’t want him to be prosecuted, can she not just drop the case? As a celebrity, I wouldn’t want the world poking their noses into my business and dropping a case would be one way to do that. This just makes her look like an idiot.

@ eden: In US law, he could potentially be tried in both a criminal case (brought by the state or the “people”) and additionally in a civil case (brought by Rihanna).
If Rihanna doesn’t want to press charges, Chris Brown could still be persecuted by the state, in which case Rihanna could influence the outcome by testifying FOR him.

Here’s the thing..I am a criminal defense attorney and I could have started an office pool about how quickly they would get back together. 9 out of 10 times the victims in our cases retract their statements and either(1) don’t show up for the trial or (2) testify for the accused. This is what is sooo infuriating: either (1) he did this to her and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law with her testimony or (2) he didn’t and she should have never initiated this prosection because it calls all victims statements into question.
Also, victims often think that they decide whether or not to “press charges.” In reality, if police are called out, they write reports. Those reports are sent to the district attorney’s office and DAs decide whether or not (and with what) to charge people.
This stuff always makes me sick.

I personally think everyone including Jay-Z should worry about there own relationship and keep there comments to them selves. If you don’t have positive input to help them and not criticize there life decisions, then you should keep your thoughts to you. Everyone is speaking as if they are so perfect and their living for them ; I don’t understand. I hated to see what happened with Chris & Rihanna, but that’s there life and their problems not ours and everyone needs to just mind their own business. Especially the media!!!! If she can expect what happened in her life & her family backs her up. That should be a sign for everyone to butt out!!!!! (Cause were all outside looking in)

I’ve been there. I dropped the charges, went back with him, etc. That’s her business and I’m sure she has her own reasons. And I must agree with Erin G: her age has nothing to do with it. A 41 year old may very well do the same thing.

Celebrity or just anyone off the street, this is our business as it effects every man, woman and child. What you do to me you do unto my brothers and sisters. It is apparent that we are all responsible by the way the laws have been changed over the years so the police can posecute the abusers regardless that the victim changes their mind for whatever reason. Only if they could do more to make these victims realize how their lives are in danger and only they can stop the cycle of violence.
I truly hope these young people use all that money they have to get the best therapist money can afford and get their lives straightened out.
