Remote Control: What You’ll Want To Watch This Week
Oh television, you pack so many hours of enjoyment into such a small package. This week, I’m excited to see Alan Thicke on “How I Met Your Mother,” Taylor Swift on the CMA Awards, and the final collections on “Project Runway.” And I am so ready to give “FlashForward” a shot.
The Show: “How I Met Your Mother”
Set Your DVR For: Tonight, 8 p.m. (EST), CBS
It’s like the writers of “How I Met Your Mother” can read our minds. Just when we are getting sick of Barney and Robin as a couple, Lily is on a mission to break them up. Also, Alan Thicke guest stars!
The Show: “43rd Annual CMA Awards”
Set Your DVR For: Wednesday, 8 p.m. (EST), ABC
The ads call it “Country Music’s Biggest Night” and it certainly will be with performances from Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley. But all eyes will certainly be on young Taylor Swift to snag the show’s most awards. And duh, she’s performing.
The Show: “Ghost Hunter Academy”
Set Your DVR For: Wednesday, 10 p.m. (EST), SyFy
This brand-new show is what would happen if you mashed up “Paranormal Activity” and “The Apprentice.” Ghost hunters Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango teach five newbies how to track the paranormal, taking them to the scariest haunted places in the country.
The Show: “Project Runway”
Set Your DVR For: Thursday, 10 p.m. (EST), Lifetime
This season of “Project Runway” has in no way, shape, or form been my favorite. But this is the week when the contestants unveil their collections for Fashion Week at Bryant Park. Here’s hoping the fact that having three months to work on the collections has upped their creativity ante.
The Show: “FlashForward”
Set Your DVR For: Thursday, 8 p.m. (EST), ABC
I won’t lie to you—I have yet to watch this show. But over the weekend, a fourth person told me that it’s amazing, like the first season of “Lost.” So I am officially catching up and getting on board. Bonus: the yumminess of Joseph Fiennes and Dominic Monaghan.

The final runway shows are always my fave part of every season, because I think during the other shows, creativity is somewhat limited, due to time, but I think everyone’s collections at the end are so much more of a reflection of who they are as designers, and everyone always has at least 1 or 2 or 12 amazing designs.

I’ve been watching Flash Forward since the beginning, but it has yet to really grab me. The first episode was really cool and intense, but the rest of the episodes so far haven’t lived up to the first one. It is starting off a lot like Lost where you have a huge event in the first show, and then the characters and plot unfold throughout the season. I got tired of Lost after the first season, so maybe these kinds of shows just aren’t for me. I’m gonna give FF a few more episodes and see if I can get really sucked in.
Now that I think about it, maybe it’s the lead male character, he’s just not a good actor. The other actors are good. He’s hard to believe.

Nothing, not even other good-looking actors, will tear me away from Bones at 8 pm on Thursdays.

Dominic Monaghan? Yuck. Although, I wouldn’t kick Joe Fiennes outta my bed.

Flashforward has an interesting concept and I want to find out what happens, but the execution has been pretty poor so far. Joe Fiennes, while hot, plays his character too intense to be believed. The overall acting isn’t great… and it suffers from inconsistencies, poor editing (characters being heard to talk when you can see from the side that their mouths aren’t moving, etc), and inappropriate music choices which tend to ruin the mood of the scene. There are several scenes like this:
Boss: “We should investigate the flashforwards based on what you saw in your flashforward of you investigating them.”
Joe: “Okay, my flashforward showed me getting information from Germany so I’m going go there.”
Boss: “Whoa whoa whoa… you can’t just run off to Germany because of something you saw in a vision!”
The last episode was a little better, despite them blatantly acting like FBI agents while “infiltrating” a secret club and no one noticed them loudly looking for/talking about clues and was surprised when the club was raided…
