Sarah Silverman won't make fat jokes

“I don’t like fat jokes about women. Men can take it because we live in a society where fat men still deserve love, still can be respected. Fat women are treated (in the white culture, anyway) like s**t, and it bums me out.

—Comedian Sarah Silverman on what she doesn’t think is funny [Canadian Broadcasting Corporation]

I know, I don’t really like her, but I do think she’s smart and after reading this she is one of my heroes, it’s not often that comedians or people in general say that “making fat jokes bums me out”. For most people it’s a safe topic and fat people are literally the butt of alot of jokes because they are easily picked on. This totally made my day.

Just throwing some food for thought out there: I have a friend named Erica Watson who is a stand up comedian and she has a show called “Fat Bitch” (http://www.myspace.com/comedian_erica_watson), where she jokes about a lot of things, including her weight. So I like what Sarah Silverman said, but I certainly do not agree the subject should be censored or anything.

wow. i’m actually kind of surprised to hear her say that. i never thought she was that funny, but she earns some points with that one. nice to know some people out there aren’t so shallow and going to go as low as insulting people because of their weight. everyone deserves to be respected, even people that happen to be overweight.
