A friend just sent me this photo, taken at an NYC drugstore. I know there’s a recession and peeps be lookin’ to save money anywhere they can, but this is taking the penny pinching a bit far.

My sister used a pregnancy test she got from the Dollar Store and it gave her a negative result, about 6 1/2 months later she welcomed my 6 lb, 4 oz baby niece into the world.

During my pregnancy scare(s…), I had enough trouble trusting that EPT brand, and they supposed to be the best. So, uh, a 99 cent one is scary to me.

1 - there are pregnancy tests the dollar store in my MN suburb… and in the “impulse shopping” aisle up front, no less. But….
2 - I have heard rumors that when uninsured women go to the doctor for a pregnancy test, they are advised that it is cheaper but still effective to get a dollar store test instead, before wasting their money at the doctor’s office.
I still wouldn’t be penny pinching on one, myself.

According to almost everyone who’s used them on a forum I go to, Dollar Tree pregnancy tests are just as effective as the fancy drug store ones…but, like with the drug store ones, you should buy more than one, and take them at different times of day.
