I don’t care much about Katy Perry one way or the other, but as someone who plays guitar and sings, I have to say it is highly unlikely that she was actually doing a pit check. For one thing, she probably stinks anyway and knows it due to the combination of stage lights and physical activity. Secondly, there’s lots of stuff she might be checking on the floor - set list, guitar or vocals effects peddals, or even looking for a dropped guitar pick.
