Quick Pic: Do You Have To Be A Comic To Still Wear Kitschy Galoshes?
Tina Fey was spotted leaving the the “Today Show” wearing zebra-print and lime green galoshes. It’s become cheesy to wear kitschy galoshes in NYC, even though this was the trend a few years back. Now fashionistas and others that don’t want soggy feet wear stylish and sleek rain boots in neutral colors (Rachel Zoe even praised a pair of $1,350 Prada rain boots earlier this week). There are some that think logo rain boots are fashionable, but I pretty much despise most things with logos plastered all over them. What is the rain boot trend in your area? Do people even wear rain boots there? [10/15/09]

I live in Georgia. We’ve had 2 days of sun in the last month. I don’t care what my rainboots look like, as long as my socks are dry.
I do have two fabulous pairs of polka dotted rainboots and people seem to like them. That or they have wet socks.

When I lived in Tulsa, when it rained the streets and sidewalks flooded inches high. Everyone had rainboots, and on my campus, it seemed that the crazier or funner the better, since they were such a necessity. Now that I live back in Chicago, I’m in the habit of wearing rain boots whenever it rains. I have this tacky, crazy polka-dotted pair. I know it’s totally out of style, but my feet stay super dry and I get tons of compliments! I should probably buy a more classy pair at some point, though.

Over here in the Northwest, I wear black rainboots with colorful polka dots on them. I wear them too and from work, and change my shoes at the office. I could have just got black ones, but that’s sort of boring. I also wear a yellow wool trench all winter too…there’s just too much black out here during the rainy season (aka October through May).

Being from san diego, I absolutely LOVE wearing rainboots here in the city! I may be immature but there is nothing like stepping in a huge puddle and keeping your feet dry at the same time! I love my polka dot ones as well.

I’m in Tennessee and women do seem to still be wearing the crazy ones. I’ve never worn them. I have a couple pairs of actual boots, that are utilitarian as well as fashionable (think Frye). Since this is a car city, the furthest I ever have to walk in the rain is across a parking lot, or maybe a few blocks (but I typically avoid going downtown in the rain, whenever possible). But the Fryes have held up against water, mud, etc…and are easy to clean off.

$1350 for rainboots????? I try - really - not to be overly judgmental but COME ON!!!!!!!! For that kind of money they better come with a strong handsome man to carry me through the puddles, hold my coffee and tell me I look lovely with damp frizzy hair.

I live in KY and honestly I don’t see anyone in rainboots ever. I didn’t notice until I bought some for myself and wondered why I felt so weird wearing them out.

I have a pair of black rain boots with blue, pink, and green owls on them. They tend to draw looks when I wear them, but who cares? My feet are dry and I think they’re damn adorable. I’d like a pair of solid-colored ones, too, but they’d still be bright - probably yellow. I love rain gear in bright colors, it looks so cheerful on dreary days.

I think almost every single student on my campus has a pair of rainboots, ranging from those expensive Hunter ones to the $15 ones I bought from Target that are red and yellow apple-patterned. The sidewalks here are crap, so they tend to flood. Whereas where I live at home, in upstate NY, you’d have to wear them every day in the fall but they aren’t warm enough, so everyone just wears winter boots.

I ALMOST bought myself a pair (from Target, not spending $1350 on plastic) a few months ago just to make up for the fact my mother always made me wear my boy neighbor’s hand-me-down ugly black boy rainboots and all the girls had pretty pink or red ones.

I live in the south and work on a university campus. Parking is far away and we usually have a wet autumn. Everyone wears rainboots around here from sorority girls to my 50-something boss.

im wearing a pair of black rainboots with some gray fleece on the outside from target, since its raining right now in Chicago. I have another pair of pink, white, blue, and orange striped rainboots, but I don’t wear those often because I don’t like it when they don’t match my outfit, and black and gray goes better with everything.

I’m in Chicago and I see a mixture of both really. I see some fun prints but I also see logo printed and I also see plain colored classy looking ones. Personally I own a pair of navy blue boots with light blue anchors and it’s fun.

I’m also from Georgia and it has been the wettest fall I can remember! I had trouble finding rain boots that didn’t make my feet hurt, and then a friend traded me a pair that are wonderful! It helps that they have frog eyes on the front
I get compliments from every one from the sorority girls to the art majors. It’s a pretty sweet deal on a rainy day!

I don’t see them that often, but we either get daily afternoon monsoon season rains or snow. In warm weather, I just wear the chacos because they rock. Once the weather turns cold enough to stop wearing them though, it’s either just not raining or it’s full on snowing and I bust out my winter/hiking boots.

@CarlaRae - your mention of being a mountain woman made me curious to see where you are, so I checked out your profile. All I can say is JEALOUS. My bf is from slc and we considered moving up there for a while, but part of the reason we didn’t (among others, really) was that he refused to live anywhere but the wasatch resort if we moved back, haha.

I’m currently wearing my black boots with white polka-dots & hot pink lining. Rainy days are blah enough, they need a little spicing up! Besides, how could I giggle & splash in the occasional puddle wearing “Boring” rain boots?

Well with the summer we’ve had in NYC my Swims have gotten a lot of use. They are not boots but “rubber” shoe protectors. They are awesome. I can wear my stilettos even when it rains without ruining them. They also have a bootie version for when weather gets really cold or if it snows and you need more coverage. Check them out. I swear by them. I have them in black but they make them in different colors too.

Crazy printed galoshes are all the rage on college campuses. And who the hell cares what the fashionistas think?! I say keep your feet dry and your expensive kicks intact by wearing whatever you want.

My entire life I searched for the perfect pair of bright yellow galoshes. I finally found some at Target’s website, and I had a giftcard from there. I ordered them and it took THREE MONTHS for them to get to me, and by that time it was summer and had stopped raining. Now everything around me is wet, except my toesies. Most worthwhile 20+ year wait ever!

I live in Indy as well (represent Naptown!) and I think practicality and fashion blend really well here. Because of that, I think, rain boots are in fashion, but I see mostly neutral colors or the classic yellow, not so much the zebra stripes. And yea, lately, if you don’t have a good pair of rain boots here, you might as well build yourself an ark, otherwise you’re going to ruin your favorite satin shoes and that is unacceptable.

I work in NYC and rock Burberry rainboots. They make me feel rich and classy and wonderful. (They were a gift, too, so my wallet did not suffer)
I think if I didn’t have them I would go for something understated like Hunters or JCrew. Then again, in New York anything goes.
