Poll: What’s Your Ultimate Guilty Pleasure?
Times are tough and we know you’re cutting back. But everyone has their indulgences, the things that they just can’t help themselves from enjoying. What’s yours?

And a note on the eating out option: any real foodie can produce excellent food at home. Yes, some things really do turn out better with commercial quality appliances, but most foodies I know (myself included) enjoy eating at home as much (or more!) than restaurants since most places really don’t serve very good food, and aside from often-hard-to-track-down holes in the wall (for those of us not living in NYC or other large-ish cities), truly good food gets spendy pretty fast.

@Joyy: I am so getting a torch next time I hit up Williams Sonoma.

@cheese - you can probably get it WAY cheaper at home depot.

at the risk of providing enough information to identify myself (hopefully no friends/neighbors read this):
wine - just FedEx’d the annual $1,200 check today to our favorite boutique winery for 2 cases of nirvana in a bottle.
[can’t believe I’m admitting this one] NASCAR - I go to at least 2 races/yr which is actually more fun than you could possibly imagine (how I became a fan is a story in itself I’ll spare everyone).
what can I say? I’m eclectic…

@Joyy: But it won’t have form to go with the function.

@cheese - everyone knows form FOLLOWS function. plus, if it hasn’t become apparent through other posts here, I’m cheap like it’s my job.

And actually, I should have chosen “other” because The Frisky is my guilty pleasure. Aside from food blogs, I pretty much hate all things blog-related. But the Frisky is just way to fun and entertaining.

@ cheese—Bed, Bath & Beyond sells the torch and it’s affordable. Just picked up one, along with a set of 4 creme brulee bowls, for a bridal registry.

whenever I go into Target, it’s usually for the necessities - toilet paper, soap, razors - but do i end up with just those? never. the last time i was there i walked out with a post-it calender that cost like twenty dollars i really didn’t have. i just can’t resist.

@abarita - my friends and I call it the $100 curse. Doesn’t matter if you go into Target to buy toothpaste, all of the sudden you’re leaving with $100 worth of things you never knew you always needed!

Well, I was going to vote for the chemically delicious junk food option, but my guiltiest pleasure is a good, hawt, steamy historical romance novel…historical, mind you, contemporary rarely cuts it. I buy bodice rippers on amazon.com like they’re going out of style…which apparently they’re not because they still get published. I highly recommend Lisa Kleypas if anyone’s interested.
And I agree about Target…I go in for feminine products and come out with movies and bookends shaped like lions (no joke, I love those things).

MUSIC. I chose “other” because there was no legitimate music option. Music is a part of my life and going deaf would just about kill me. I’ve been in choir since high school and thought for a little while that becoming a music major would be a good idea.
I enjoy almost every kind of music out there except for most of today’s rap and country; there are good exceptions though. My favorite genres are Alt-Rock, 80’s music, Dance, Trance, Techno, Drum and Bass, Nu-Jazz, traditional Jazz, and old-school hip hop/rap. These are what I listen to on a daily basis in addition to singing.
I’d be more than happy to chat about artists if anybody’s interested

I go out to eat a lot, but not because the food is any better than it can be at home (I’m just a so-so cook but BF is awesome). I just like the whole process - getting a little dressed up, not having to cook ourselves, not having to do dishes, having whatever we want, having a few drinks I don’t know how to mix myself, maybe meeting some people or stopping at a bar on the way home for a game of pool.
