Politicians Who Uglified Themselves To Be Taken More Seriously

Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin is a lightening rod for criticism on almost every topic. I am not going to jump into that fray since Tina Fey will probably do a smashing job on her own, but I will add my two cents on Sarah Palin’s style. Who does she think she is kidding? Just because she throws on some glasses makes her no closer to Uglyville than it does to Harry Potter. While she’s claimed sexism based on her looks, and that people take her less seriously because she’s beautiful, her critics would argue that had she looked like, say, Susan Boyle, she would have never been selected as John McCain’s running mate.

Regardless, she’s not the first attractive politician to play up and/or try to hide her good looks. Keep clicking…

Well, I know I might take Palin more seriously if when she opened her mouth intelligent statements came out instead of the ridiculous/uneducated/oblivious crap that does now!

Someone needs to do a photoshoot where Palin is in a airplane scene, because she really does look like a slutty flight attendant, Letterman said it perfectly.

I just can’t get on board with thinking Ann Coulter is ‘stunning’.  Horse faces are beautiful… on horses. Sorry.

What if my all time favorite politico, James Carville, was in reality shaving his head to hide his perfect John Edwards coiffure and hiding an abdominal 12 pack under his suit jacket with pecs and biceps to die for. Now that would be interesting…..could be the perfect man.

People lash out at things that they don’t understand and at things that scare them. It’s rather clear that liberals don’t understand and therefore are scared of Sarah Palin.

@Rick Garner: People also like to laugh at other people doing stupid things. And, FWIW, I think conservatives are far more confused by SP’s actions than liberals, who really don’t much care about her anymore. Conservatives, though, see her as a possible bright light in 2012. Or, well, _saw_ her as that.

@Rick, What is there to understand about Sarah Palin? She’s a hack governor who wants to be president just to say she was a woman president (god forbid the first, because then women would never be trusted in office again).

The only thing I’m scared about is if somehow America turns into one unified moron and elects her if she does run, because I’m scared to see how quickly our country could be run into the ground. She doesn’t know s**t about politics and just says things to stay in the spotlight after McCain pulled her as a complete ploy to stay in the race. She was picked not for her “political prowess” but because she was a woman, to compete with the notion of Hilary.

@ rick: the only thing that scared me about Palin was the possibility of her being a heartbeat away from the presidency.  And I understand her just fine, thanks.  She’s a hockey supportin’, animal huntin’, Carhartt wearin’, oil drillin’, Joe Six-Pack lovin’ former beauty queen.  What’s not to understand?

@ GreenAura - bravo! And those of us in other countries were scared at the thought of it, too!

I think this article is ridiculous. I’m definitley not a Palin supporter-qbut since when does dressing conservatively or donning glasses make someone ugly?

@Karly—only in Hollywood.  It’s the whole “She’s All That” theory.  *Sigh* I wish I looked like Racheal Leigh Cook when I took off my glasses!
