Politician Compares Michelle Obama To A Gorilla—On Facebook!
Michelle Obama is catching it from all sides. First legendary supermodel Iman says Michelle is “no great beauty,” then comedian Jay Mohr compared her to a linebacker, and now a South Carolina politician is calling her a “gorilla.” After a news report that a gorilla escaped from Columbia Zoo in South Carolina, state activist Rusty DePass posted this snarky comment on Facebook: “I’m sure its just one of Michelle’s ancestors—probably harmless.” Of course, once the media caught on to this, DePass followed up with a statement which sounds almost as insulting as his first one. “The comment was hers. Not mine,” he said in reference to Michelle’s earlier statement that we are all descendants of apes. [Huffington Post]

Definitely an ill-advised statement. Even if he honestly meant it in reference to her evolution stance, it will still be taken as racism.
If he was sincere in his excuse, it reminds me of David Howard and his use of the word niggardly - that ended well for him.

Everyone knows that Facebook isn’t real life…just let him tell his “Friends” whatever he wants.

Wow. Just when I was worried about getting older, Rusty DePass came along and showed me I can act like I’m in high school well into my sixties! Nice.

Yeah, it comes off as racist no matter which way it was meant to be taken, he needs to put on a muzzle, or as my mother always quoted “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all”.

I’m so sick of these doofs spewing hatred fueling comments. Seriously?? Michelle Obama has more grace and class in her little finger than any of those people. Do you think they are a little jealous? I also take offense at the linebacker comment. I’ve met Michelle and we are of the same height and build. Jay Mohr wishes he were a linebacker…

And people wonder why African-Americans can’t just let “racism” go? Because racism just won’t go away!

Why is it that politicians can do so much wrong and go off unharmed? If I did that at my job, or any of us ‘real-worker’s’ did anything close to that we would be canned in a heartbeat. No consequences I guess when you are ‘the man’. Damn The Man!

@Squidtermz - when an elected official basically shat on me on the phone once (low-ish level person who I ended up dealing with over something that should have been totally minor) and I asked to speak with her supervisor, she explained that she was an elected official and didn’t actually have one! DtM for sure.

thumbs up with QTGirl
And anyway, she’s a strong woman. A**holes are everywhere in this society, it’s just that these people (Jay Mohr and this old guy) have the notoriety to sound off.
In the long run, it doesn’t matter; it goes to show you that she still has a husband, family, and friends who love her but keeps her dignity and respect. These trashtalkers aren’t getting much out of this.

Men like this generally are intimidated by strong yet graceful women. He’s just another racist ass, and we’ll do well to try to get rid of this attitude in our country if we ever want to progress as much as we could.
