Masturbation

Buffin’ the muffin. Tiptoeing through the two lips. Five knuckle gusset shuffle. Coochie cuddling. And, if you’re Irish, Tickling me Elmo. We all do it and we all have our favorite euphemisms for it—so why can’t we talk about it?

For years I tried to hide the fact that masturbation, or Mistress Bation (the preferred nomenclature for many females), was a rather energetic pastime of mine. And yet my life with Mistress Bation was fraught with deception. My favorite fib was the one where I pretended that my current boyfriend was the messiah of mechanical pleasure. “Oh, really! That’s how it’s done. Well, my heavens…I simply didn’t know before you.” I think it was an easy way to assuage many men’s wishes to “boldly go where no man had gone before.” Mostly, it was a technique to engage in a little diddley-doo without the embarrassment of admitting that I was only too thrilled to hop on the five-fingered saddle during sex, and even worse, admitting that I was a true cowgirl when it came down to it. I do find it unfortunate that it seems more taboo, even today, for women to admit to masturbation than it is for men to do so. Of course, this is probably because everyone knows that virtually all men do it, whereas it’s apparently some secret that women do it as well.

What I agree with, which the article detailed, is that women are far more varied in their technique than men tend to be. That’s not to say there isn’t variance among male technique, but I think the vast majority of men do it very similarly, whereas I think there are many different techniques used by women. I find that to be very intriguing.

According to a few girls I met in college, they didn’t masturbate because of a “strict religious upbringing.” But they had lots of sex.

Don’t get what is the big deal about masturbation. Also, seems like many girls and women never talk about masturbation. Or they lie about how MUCH they do it, especially to each other.

Don’t see why it’s so embarrassing. . . unless they masturbate in the bathroom at work or wank it to child porn.

@belongsomewhere: That’s some object laying on it. I can’t be sure, but I think it’s the ear from a Mickey Mouse hat. Our girl’s a freak.

I agree that the stigma attached to self-stimulation is only applied to us guys.  The women were passed over since it was as if they didn’t self-stimulate themselves.

What I find very funny is that I get a catalog and in it, they have a few sex toy for guys - gel rings, pump and cream.  However, there are PAGES of toys for women.  I just laugh!  So much for ‘innocent’ females!  LOL

@Dave: We are simple creatures. All required is 2 steps. 1. Touch 2. Repeat.

Same is true for us women, only some don’t realize it – yet (more so postpeak). And we don’t have the same bio-mechanical imperative as men. For some, add “Step 0. ‘Shopping.’” Consumerist marketing an unnecessary solution to an artificial need to a woman at its best: “If you build it, they will come.”

I just helped a friend pick up her first vibrator… I don’t find masturbation a terribly taboo subject.

@Taurwen: It must have been really heavy. Perhaps she should choose a lighter one next time?

When I was in college, I dated a few guys who asked if I masterbated. I lied and said, “NO”. They always said “Good girl - if you do that no man will ever satisfy you.” Really? Then I went through a time when guys wanted to watch. One guy had never seen a woman *do that* and got so excited he actually drooled (I’m pretty sure that was what it was) on my legs.. Needless to say, that put a damper (sorry) on the whole evening. I’m so glad those days are over!

BTW, Dave the Rave, many of those items in the catalogs can be used for men if that’s your thing, but they usually require a partner so they’re not really for “alone” playtime. I’ve seen couple of man toys online that you didn’t mention, too.

wonderfultonight,

The catalog I refered to was a standard mail order catalog - sheets, home decor, housewares, etc and NOT the place you would expect that type of stuff.  The only things in there for guys were rings, a pump, “enhancement” pills and strips you chewed like gum.  All on about two pages. The females had an entire SECTION of ‘vibrators’, etc.  That’s what I meant.

wonderfultonight,

Almost forgot.  The ‘vibrators’ for women were in discrete-looking designs.  Some looked like a lipstick item, others a simple ‘shaft’ and in various styles and such.  Variety is the spice of life and the women certainly had that!  Us guys had lame and tame stuff.  But, I was at a local porn shop years ago and all they had were male items on display - I guess they didn’t cater to many women.  Always something!

I’ve often wondered why guys get all excited watching women masturbate. Its never done anything for me.

@Dave the Rave: I’ve seen those “home goods”, haha, catalogs, too. There are online sites that carry a few more items. I think there is more variety for women because there is more variety among women. More places to stimulate and some are hard to access *by hand*, plus women come in various sizes. They also buy more, so the stores cater to that fact.

Men are equipped from birth to please themselves - easy access and the hand fits all sizes. Also less time involved for gratification. Many, if not most, women need more stimulation than men, as you are aware, I’m sure.

@bogart4017 I don’t know why some guys get that excited, either. But they do. There are so many other things the couple can do together that are more fun. I’d rather be a participant than an exhibition. My opinion, of course.

@ktblueyz: I guess, then, it all depends on whether or not you like watching yourself get off in the mirror.
