Oh Dear God, Overalls Are In Style
Sweet Jesus, overalls are officially “in.” Ralph Lauren (runway shot above), Jean Paul Gaultier, Roberto Cavalli and other designers sent models down the runway sporting versions of the popular farm wear that ranged from questionable all-leather numbers to one quite unfortunate overall-inspired metallic evening gown. Now, don’t get me wrong: I love a comfy overall and I certainly do agree that they look adorable. On toddlers. I may have been known to sport an overall or two as recently as college, maybe even after that, here and there. But there comes a time in a grown-ass woman’s life when she’s simply a bit too mature to pull off certain looks, know what I’m saying? That’s why God created sexy jumpsuits for, I guess, you know, to satisfy that onesie urge. Much like those clogs that came clumping down spring runways, this is a look I’ll have to pass on. But you tell me: After it trickles down and Topshop and H&M and everyone else inevitably starts trying to sell you the trend, will you buy in? [Style.com]

I grew up on a FARM, for heaven’s sake, and I never wore overalls beyond the age of seven. They’re awful. Awful awful awful!

I’m over 40 and sporting more pounds than I should. Overalls at this point in my life would scream to the world, “She buys her clothes from Wal-Mart, y’all!” I’m going to pass on this trend.

just because they were sent down a runway does not mean that they are in. it doesn’t even mean that the designer ever intends to sell these pieces or for anyone to ever wear them. they may have been created as supplementary pieces to “fill in” the line and add to the overall mood and look that the designer is going for.
at least 20% (often more) of what you see on any given runway show is never actually intended to be worn. they are just show pieces to give the buyers an idea of the mood or look that the designer is going for.

@secretstevie: Thank you! Just becase a designer gave up on style for the season doesn’t mean we should.

Oh no, not for me. They reminds me too much of how I dressed in junior high and high school, aka before I discovered that clothes could be flattering, fun to play with and comfortable all at the same time.

I guess I am alone in saying that I heart overalls…don’t mind saying it. They’re cute.

Mmm, no. I don’t really have a problem with them, but I don’t actually want to wear something that is a repeat of my cringe-worthy middle school years.

I grew up on a farm and stopped wearing overalls in junior high. I would maybe wear bib-style ski pants, aside from something super functional that could be hidden under a jacket, hellz no.

I had a job where the uniform was overalls… it was terrible! I couldn’t have looked any worse if I had tried.
