New Female Condom On The Horizon

female condom

We don’t know anyone who uses female condoms, and unlike the ones made for men, you don’t often see commercials advertising their benefits. However, this may soon change. A new, potentially less-expensive version of the female condom will be considered by a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel this week. The panel of health experts will weigh in on whether the FC2 Female Condom adequately prevents pregnancy, HIV, and other STDs. While the new condom is similar to the one on the market right now, it’s made from a new synthetic rubber material called nitrile, as opposed to polyurethane.

Male condoms generally cost consumers between 50 cents and $2 a piece, while female condoms cost between $2.80 and $4 each. If the cheaper female version is approved, will you use it? Tell us in the comments… [Reuters]

Not unless they come up with female condoms that no longer require that they must be held onto during use!

hehe good point miss. I have never come across one personally but I can definitely see where your coming from. I think they should make a better “near the base” piece for male versions as well. =)

I am sure both sides would rather keep the other side going without having to wear one themselves lol. I know this seems old fashioned and I know the circumstances but they truly are horrible to wear, I dont make an ultimatum and rarely have an instance that this is the case but its almost worth passing up sex altogether rather than wear one.

They are not comfortable.  Period.  However they are easier to insert when compared to rolling a condom on a penis.  And let’s not forget, because penis’ come in different sizes, the female condom accommodates this fact.

I’ll use the female condom when they also have the male birth control pill. I refuse to be expected to take the meds AND insert the rubber.

Hmm.  I don’t know that putting a ring that sits in your vag is exactly comfortable during sex.  Um… also not to mention that you have to 1/2 fist yourself to get it in.  Sorry, but I’ve never had any babies and that won’t fit in there.  I can’t even use a super tampon, much less this crap.  It seems that when they make contraceptive devices for women they never consider that not everyone is built like a loose sock.  I like being complimented on my tightness and want it to stay that way.  I’ll stick with traditional condoms, thanks.

The ‘male birth control pill’ would never work, we would forget to take it within a week of beginning. Patches are uncomfortable, implants are expensive, tube clips are inconsistent, and vasectomies are just plain risky (semi-irreversible).

Trust us, we shall leave it up to you ladies.
