My Name Is Going To Be All The Rage In 2019
Writer Laura Wattenberg was issued a challenge by Parents magazine: Predict the top baby names for boys and girls in ... 2019? The thing is, the majority of popular baby names are the same as those a decade before. There are just some names that are always in fashion—Jacob and Zoe, for example—so Watternberg decided to take a different approach.
I decided to limit my choices to names currently outside of the top 40. The result isn’t a literal top-10 prediction, but a forecast of the names I expect to have the greatest fashion momentum over the coming decade ... To make my list, a name had to both show signs of accelerating growth and tie into broader fashion trends.
The result? Amelia is going to be the number six girl name in 2019! Holla! The full list, after the jump. [Baby Name Wizard]

I’ve been a big Henry (Hank) fan, but I like all the rest.

Aww man, I just heard of Harper for a girl the other day and really liked it. Now everyone’s stealing it, haha.
I heard of two little girls with the name Amelia recently, so that’s definitely an up and comer.

I like a lot of these names, so sure. There’s also like a 3 generation delay in popularity, with names like Violet which were popular in the 30s being the ones that’ll be popular in a decade, which explains all the Stellas and such running around now.
Ryder makes me think of Rider Strong from Boy Meets World…which is NOT a bad thing.
It seems she’s predicting an increase in/continuation of the surname name trend…interesting, because I’d heard that was supposedly decreasing.

On the surname - first name trend note, I’ve always had it set in my mind that if I had a son and I took my husband’s last name, I would give my son the first name Keller. My dad was unfortunate enough to have all daughters, so Keller is going to die out.

Ugh. I really hope Lucy doesn’t go up. I really like that name and want to name a daughter that. I probably won’t have kids till… 2015-2020.

I like unisex names: Logan, Reagan, Austin. I like the name Aster and Aeneas for a girl. But I was politely informed that Aster (star flower) sounds like “ass” and Aeneas (from The Aeneid) sounds like “anus”. :sigh: Oh well, I’ve got 10 years to think about it….

Since so much of the hubs’ family speaks only Spanish I have to find names that translate well in both English and Spanish. His poor grandmother cannot pronounce my Norwegian name no matter how hard she tries although his name is typical English. I like Isabel for a girl (still debating spelling also like it spelled Isobel). I also like the names Astrid (more my heritage), Emma, Amelia, Lila etc but I think the pronunciation would be an issue for all except Emma and there’s already an Emma in the family.

My next (and final) child will be Ryserra if she’s a girl and Ransom if he’s a boy.

I’m so glad that writer can spell. Every time I see someone name their kid Kamren (omg you spelled it soooo kreativlee!) or Aliss (I get it! It’s like ALICE!), I throw up in my mouth.

Haha catscratch. There’s a football player who’s name is pronounce Lavern-e-us but it’s spelled Lavernues like dues. Creative spelling is one thing but letters have sounds attached to them! How would anyone know how to pronounce his name?

I don’t like old-fashion names at all. That must make me very strange.
