Morgan Freeman’s Incest Scandal—Is His Career Over?
I have no problem admitting that I believe the National Enquirer sometimes because the tabloid has a pretty impressive track record for getting things right, except when it comes to aliens. But when I read that Morgan Freeman was having an affair with his step-granddaughter, I thought the Enquirer was making something out of nothing, a misunderstanding. Now, however, I’ve changed my opinion because this scandalous charge has reportedly come out in his divorce proceedings with estranged wife Myrna.
Morgan allegedly began the affair when his step-granddaughter E’Dena Hines was a teenager. She was raised by Morgan and Myrna since she was a young girl, says a source. Morgan, 72, and E’Dena, 27, have allegedly carried on their affair for 10 years, and it contributed to the breakup between him and his wife and his longtime mistress. One woman truly isn’t enough for this Oscar winner.
E’Dena has been Morgan’s escort to several public appearances, including last year’s premiere of “Dark Knight.” But people didn’t suspect any hanky-panky because she was introduced as his granddaughter, says a family insider, who added that Morgan is trying desperately to keep the divorce out of open court so this info won’t wreak havoc on his career.
I’m pretty disgusted by this reported affair, even though it isn’t technically incest because they’re not blood relatives. However, I still can’t help thinking it will do little damage to Morgan’s career. One thing the passing of Michael Jackson has proven is that fans can separate someone’s personal life from their art or talent (I won’t go into whether that’s wrong or right here). What Morgan has done isn’t that far off from what Woody Allen did with Soon-Yi Priven, Mia Farrow’s adopted daughter who later wed Allen. Kobe Bryant continued to be celebrated as a basketball phenomenon after the dismissal of his rape case. And let’s not forget that Roman Polanski plead guilty for having sex with a minor, fled the U.S., and has been in a self-imposed exile in France for 30 years, yet he continues to make films that people watch and celebrate, awarding him an Oscar in 2002 for “The Pianist.”
While Morgan, at age 62, should have exercised better judgment when he allegedly started the affair with his step-granddaughter, I doubt he’ll be shunned by Hollywood and fans will still flock to his movies.

I was also furious in Mike Tyson’s role in “The Hangover.” The problem with this is I think that it teaches people that it’s okay for talent and looks to overshadow bad behavior. I don’t have to tell you how many little girls still love Chris Brown for being cute and assume he “just make a mistake.” I am sure Morgan Freeman’s career will be just fine, and that because he “wasn’t convicted” means “nothing wrong happened.”

How about not headlining the article as incest when the author freely admits that it isn’t incest. Not saying it’s right, admirable, or anything like that, just that if it isn’t incest, don’t call it incest!

Yeah, it’s completely horrible and unforgivable that he cheated on his wife. But I don’t think the tabloids really have the right to deem it “incest”. No blood means no familial connections.
It still is wrong and dirty but although Enquirer has had a pretty good track record they do try hard to beef up their headlines with any bull they can conjure.
And Woody Allan seems to be forgiven. Look he’s still making movies people enjoy.

@Hop2it - Absolutely right. It isn’t like Tyson was ever punished for his behavior, he never did any jail-time and he still has his fortune. I agree with you, once the punishment for the crime has been served to the satisfaction of the state or federal government, those people should still be followed around and harassed for the remainder of their lives.

The author is generally wrong—incest in many jurisdictions is also defined as relationships between individuals related by affinity, such as a stepchild, or someone related through marriage. Thus, you may not be biologically related to that uncle who raped you, but the crime is still incest.

@ Riley: correction, Mike Tyson spent 3 years in the pen from 92 to 95
@ Netty: you say his cheating is “horrible and unforgivable”, but to who other than his wife? He doesn’t need to seek retribution from the public since he did not affect any of us personally.
I am not condoning any of the behaviors talked about here, but the only one he needs to apologize to is his wife. Poor gal.

@GreenAura - I know, I was trying to be as ridiculous as the person I was replying to.
His career is over and his fortune is gone, yet some are still clamoring for his blood.
I agree with you though, he owes the public nothing. If you don’t approve of it then don’t watch the next God movie he makes.

This story gives me shivers. I will ban his movies, just as I’ve done with Woody’s, that disgusting creep. You just can’t raise kids and then have sex with them. It’s rednecky and beyond foul.

@ Riley: I never catch on to sarcasm when its typed! It just doesn’t come across as beautifully when written as it does when spoken. I shall attempt to read between the lines a little better next time

@Hop2it Legal doesn’t mean technical. I was going by the dictionary definition of incest. But your statement does put to rest the people who took issue with the headline.

It’s just gross. How can you raise a child from a young age and then suddenly find that child sexually attractive? Just. EW.

Aaaa. It would only matter to his career (or freedom) if they’d been together for 10 years and she is only now 17. But he did cross all kinds of lines, no doubt about it… Plus, he’ll have to payoff the mistress a lot of hush money – she’s mad and knows all his other dirt. Now *that’s* the scandal… tbc

This is only an issue if he were planning to run for office as a Republican. Otherwise, he’s just another entertainer doing… entertaining things…

No it is not right. Just because your are not blood relation doesn’t make the relationship okay in anyway. If a man had been having sex with his daughter (we’ll even say for sake of argument that she was an adult) and then it was determined that it wasn’t actually his biological daughter. You wouldn’t just go “oh! My bad well than carry on”. You’d hopefully go “WAIT that’s still not right you raised her like a daughter!”
Since Freeman has been married to Myrna since 1984 that means that he would officially have a grandfatherly relationship since E’Dena was 2 of 3 and even younger if you include any sort of courtship.
That means that she’s been with this man who was supposed to be like a grandfather to her for almost her whole life, since she was 17.
Try and tell me that won’t leave her with some effed up psychological issues when it comes to men and their roles in her life.
