Mariah Carey Gives The Grammys The Finger

Mariah Carey is really sick of being shafted by the Grammys—she’s been nominated 21 times, but has only won five awards. So this year, the songbird has basically told the Grammy people to kiss it where the sun don’t shine. Mariah pushed back the release of her album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, to Sept. 29, one day after the Grammy cut-off date. The album’s first single, “Obsessed,” debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 at No. 11, so don’t try to theorize that the album is garbage and Mariah’s trying to save face. She doesn’t need the Grammy accolades because her career has been successful with only five awards. Plus, she’s kind of throwing a bone to Whitney Houston, whose first album in seven years will be released Sept. 1. Who’s a diva now? [NY Daily News]

Actually Grammy nominations cutoff is 1 month earlier this year because the awards show is due to air a week earlier, so the cutoff deadline is August 31, which she missed by a long while. Originally her album was schedule to release on August 25th, then got pushed to Sept 15, and now Sept 29th, which makes me wonder if this cutoff miss is intentional like you said.
In any case, at least Whitney’s ‘I Look To You’ JUST made the cutoff date! Real excited for that one..And also Toni Braxton’s Pulse was spose to come out this year since like March, but no one has heard any confirmations on that one..I wonder….

Please, this is the same “artist” that claimed September 11th ruined her movie debut when no studio releases anything they are proud of on a tuesday. Excuses, excuses, she is trying to save face.

Just because her singled Obsessed hit pretty high on the charts doesn’t mean it’s any good. I like some of Mariah’s stuff and hate most of it. I don’t like the song Obsessed at all. But I did like her album E = MC^2 that was released 2 years ago or so.

Grammys don’t have the credibility they use to have even though they look nice on your resume. That is until you do something stupid. Then you go from Grammy award winning Mr. x to Disgraced Grammy award winner Mr. x. The grammies giveth and the press taketh away.
