When I walk into a fancy cooking store like Williams-Sonoma, I want to learn how to cook so I can use all the pretty mixing bowls and spatulas. But, no matter how many beautiful the cooking tools are, there are loads of them that just don’t make sense to me. Does anyone really need a pancake warmer? Wouldn’t setting the oven to a low temperature and keeping them in there do? Where there’s an ingredient, there’s an elaborate tool to prepare, cook, or store it.

I’d buy the Butter Boy because it is funny, you’d get plenty of commentary on it at a cookout. The stainless steel soap is the most interesting though, when I cook with onions or garlic it would be handy; if it works.

The stainless steel soap is actually very useful. It takes away the smell of onions, garlic and other unsavory foods after you’ve chopped/handled them.

@Riley: Haha, all I can think of when you mentioned Butter Boy was a brand of lube called Boy Butter….as you can imagine it’s hilariously packaged.

I’m sure you can use Boy Butter in the Butter Boy…I think I just grossed myself out a little.

I need to get the avocado keeper. I only like a little avocado at a time so if I don’t use the entire thing, it starts to turn brown the next day.

Although most of the gadgets do seem pretty useless, I would absolutely use the meatball one. But I am known for buying too many kitchen gadgets and appliances.

I was disdainful of the stainless-steel soap myself after seeing it at MOMA, until my mother explained that you rub it on your hands to get rid of odors. Why would you need to do that? Garlic!! She has a stainless-steel garlic press that can be used the same way, plus a rubber tube that will take the skin off a clove which can be a bit tricky by hand. True, it all sounds unnecessary, but my Mom’s best advice on learning how to cook is that there’s no such thing as too much garlic!

We used the meatball thing here at my house like 1/2 hour ago (gave it to Dad for Father’s Day) and it was PHENOMENAL!! Definitely worth it!
