Gallery: The Kids TV Show Hosts We Miss

Oh no! LeVar Burton, the host of “Reading Rainbow,” was in a car accident in L.A. yesterday when a 74-year-old woman cut him off while making a left turn. Obviously, LeVar was not at fault. People who host exceptional children’s TV shows can do no wrong! (Well, besides Pee Wee Herman, that is.) And “Reading Rainbow” was 100% exceptional. Lord knows I didn’t voluntarily read as a child, but watching an episode of “Reading Rainbow” sure made me feel like I did. [TMZ]

As you can see, this gloomy accident brought back many blissful memories. After the jump, let’s rejoice in the survival of Levar Burton by checking out my other favorite kiddie TV show hosts.

it wasn’t his line but one of my favorite lines in the history of television was an episode of TNG where Geordi (LeVar) was trying to figure out how to stop a moon in a rapidly decaying orbit from destroying an inhabited planet.  the “Q” character suggested:  “simple, change the gravitational constant of the universe…” to which Geordi replied:  “and HOW am I supposed to do THAT?” to which “Q” replied:  “I don’t know - you just DO IT!”.  maybe you need a certain level of physics education to get it but I rolled!

speedy recovery to a great guy!

I just completely relived my youth in the past 30 minutes. Also, my friends and I contemplated dressing up as participants on “Legends of the Hidden Temple” for halloween last year!

@GreenAura—Marc Summers is hosting “Unwrapped”!

Due to not having cable and having to watch public broadcast(educational)and the big 4 networks until I moved out for college, I only know Reading Rainbow, Mr. Rogers and Bill Nye.

It is probably why I loathe reality tv, and I thank my parents for that.

My fourth grade teacher used to have us watch Reading Rainbow just about every day. I always wanted to be on the Wild & Crazy Kids, Legends of the Hidden Temple and GUTS!

Did anyone else watch Ghostwriter?  I used to think that was so cool hahaha. Lame.
