Just Wondering: Why Are Tom And Katie Trying To Give Suri Hypothermia?

Suri Cruise Is Not Dressed Appropriately For The Weather

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes took their little tyke, Suri, out for a walk in Boston, MA yesterday, where the average temperature was 51 degrees. Katie dressed appropriately. Suri, in her short, sleeveless sundress, bare legs, and peep-toe heels, was not. Is that cup of Starbucks coffee keeping her warm?

The firey light of Xenu in her heart is all she needs to keep warm.

They never have her in jackets, they did the same thing last fall/winter.  It’s so weird that they would be all bundled up and not even throw a cardi over her.  It was in the 50s here last week (now it’s low 40s) and my sister almost lost her marbles when my 9 year old niece tried to walk out without her jacket on.

I don;t understand it, but they’re her parents.

I was in Boston last weekend and it was freezing and sooo windy. I could be wrong, but I heard that because Tom and Katie are Scientologists, they don’t require Suri to do anything she doesn’t directly ask for - like eating a meal, wearing a coat, etc. They treat her like she’s an adult so if she doesn’t directly ask for something, they don’t do it.

Yeah I remember this happening last year. Also why is this child wearing heels?

Oh, give it a rest.
I’d bet Suri is picking her own clothes and did not want to wear a jacket. Sure, her parents should put a jacket on her if she’s outside for a long time, but if they’re walking from store-to-car or store-to-store the 5mins of cold probably won’t kill her.

@emflow

Um hi!  She is 3, she has no say in what she wears or at least she shouldn’t and from the way she is clinging to her Starbucks ( i will be nice and assume it isnt a caffeine drink in there) she looks a tad chilly.  With H1N1 around and no access to a real Doctor because her parent think a Sci-Fi writer is a religious leader, they should know better.

@ equnsuocha: Could we please refrain from using the word “freaks” to label people?  Also, am I the only one that is tired of the “xenu” and Scientology references?  Yeah, the kid should have a jacket and tights/pants on, agreed.  But calling out their religion when it is IN NO WAY harming you (and has nothing to do with the picture) is totally unnecessary.

It is entirely possible the kid dresses herself.  And as a parent I know the fights that ensue when said child comes out dressed in something inappropriate for the weather and they have to be sent back to their room to change.  The drama!  The screaming!  The tears!  The fighting!  (And that’s from my 5 Y.O. son!) That being said, her parents need to remember they are in charge.  Something they seem inclined to ignore in the hopes of ignoring a tantrum.

That is why she is never dressed appropriately for the weather.

Actually, three years old is an excellent time to start teaching kids about natural consequences.  Supposing Suri picked her own outfit out and didn’t want a coat, this would be an excellent teaching opportunity.  Oh yea, no one catches the cold of flu from the “cold”.. (I am pretty sure they debunked that oh.. bout 100 yrs ago when hot and cold humors were the rage), and 50 degrees may be brisk but it isn’t like she is going to catch hypothermia out shopping with mommy. Odds are she got a little chilly and next time will maybe listn to mom when she says lets put a coat on.

Hypothermia is actually a possibility considering the size of a 3 year old child. She also appears to be a slim 3 year old. And while she may not get sick from being cold, your immune system has trouble reacting to a threat when the body is busy keeping it self warm. So if this little girl encounters a virus or some bacteria, she may have a rough go of it.

If my son tells me he is not doing something that I told him to do, first look of death. This has stopped many tantrums. Second I ask him who the boss is. He knows that its mommy. If its a really really bad day. I take puppy (his best stuffed pal), it sucks but it works.

Parenting is thankless job some days. Celebs are in it to be loved. Kids dont always act like they love their parents. So many celeb kids are spoiled to the point of insanity.

I don’t see the problem: Tom approved the same shade of Mommy-and-Me Pink before they left the house. Stand down.

@GreenAura I knew the minute i posted that someone would complain.  Maybe freak isnt the right term, you are right I shouldnt label them.  However since they seek no professional medical care for their children and feel the drink a SCI FI writer dreamt up for them , is all they need to stay healthy, why we should continue to support people who make horrible choices for their children?

This is another example of a horrible choice made by parents of this cult, and I am sorry, it is a cult.  If people refuse to call Buddhism a religion rather than philosophy then why does this crap get that “protection”?

@ equnsuocha: “This is another example of a horrible choice made by parents of this cult”.  By your logic then, pretty much any and all religions are cults because there are bad parents among all of them!  It’s a simple equation: Bad parenting = bad parenting, period.  Hell, Britney was raised Southern Baptist and look at all the laughable decisions she has made as a parent.  All I am trying to say is, don’t attribute petty things like Suri not wearing a jacket to the evils of what you think is a cult.

@GreenAura Any group that shuns science for science fiction and then applies that to the care and well being of their children is a cult, IMO.  But as they say opinions are like #&@$%, everyone has them and most of them stink.

@ equnsuocha: Well, I guess we managed to accomplish one thing in our little banter:  I will now be adding the phrase “and most of them stink” to my normal “opinions are like a$$holes” comment to people.  I’ve never heard that before, but I like it, so thank you smile

Meh. It’s a well-known fact that children are immune to the cold. My brother, at age ~8, made my parents take him to the beach in January so he could try out a “surfboard” (emphasis on the “board”) he’d concocted. We’re from the Pacific Northwest and he didn’t have a wet/drysuit. He was fine.

it’s not about Scientology, it’s about Katie Holmes being a terrible mother for not having her kid wear a jacket. (joke)

I happen to have been walking in the Commons, the Gardens, and along Newbury Street yesterday—and it was a mild and warm day.  Just like Suri, I used the nice weather as justification to get one last go from a cute summer dress and sandals, because it’ll probably be snowing by the end of the week.
It didn’t get chilly until the sun went down, and even then, I was fine with a very light trench on.  Most of the day I went sans coat; I’ve been living in Europe where the temperatures have been warmer, but even just a week back in the States and I’ve managed to re-acquaint myself with the normal autumn temperatures to the point that a day in the high 50’s, low 60’s feels like a heat wave (and really, that is what the temperature was for the brunt of the day).  I’ll bet little Suri has done the same.

Judging my the outfits several grown men are wearing in this picture, I’d be willing to bet a 3 year old needs something more substantial than a nearly see-through dress and open toed shoes.
