Just Weird: Lingerie Place Mats

File this under WTF. The intimates line K. Lynn, which has chain stores in the Middle East, has placed lingerie place mats—you know, for eating on—at cafes in the region so that otherwise fully garbed Muslim women can imagine how they would look if they were sitting down in a pair of sexy stockings and garters. I have no commentary to offer other than this is really weird. [Copyranter]

last summer i was stuck in the airport in abu dhabi for a full 24 hours. it was a very eye opening experience. most of the young women i saw were in full black burka with many of them also having their full face covered as well. i was in a cafe using the internet when a group of ladies walked in that were probably about my age (early 20s). there were a couple of things about them that really stood out. First was their make up. i could only see their eyes but they were done in full on smokey lovlieness. Second was their shoes. these ladies were wearing designer high heels that carrie bradshaw would kill for. seriously sexy shoes.
moments after they sat down, one of the girls took out her laptop and opened it up. her desktop wallpaper was a Vogue-esque photograph of Louboutins and Manolos.
Over the next 24 hours i noticed that many of the women covered head to toe were wearing some of the most fabulous shoes imaginable. i guess they were just using whatever they could to express themselves.
i could see these same women enjoy having a giggle at those placemats.

theyre people, just like the rest of us. i imagine if my freedoms were restricted, id take what pleasure out of life i could, too.
