Jessica Simpson’s Maltipoo Still Missing In Action

Jessica Simpson's Missing Dog

Sadly, Jessica Simpson‘s dog, Daisy, is still missing after being snatched by a coyote. On Wednesday night, Jessica twoted, “Still holding out hope despite the a**holes that say is it a dumb thing to do. Daisy is my baby ... why would I stop searching? I’m a mom.” Martha Stewart added some insult to injury in the situation saying, “It’s pretty sad. She should have watched it more closely, though. She should have been more careful.” Ouch. That’s helpful, Martha. But, evidently, dogs are snatched by coyotes pretty often in Los Angeles. Ozzy Osbourne and Halle Berry both experienced this first-hand.

“Los Angeles has had coyotes for a long time,” says Animal Planet zoologist Dave Salmoni. “If there’s been a drought or a fire, those are factors that give the coyote not much to eat in their natural habitat, and they have to look elsewhere. That’s when you find them coming to areas with people.” [People]

So California gals, please keep your dogs and cats indoors! Please.

It’s insensitive comments like that that make me dislike Martha Stewart more than I already do.  Poor Jessica.

When I was a kid, we had a giant pit bull mix, and the one time he tangled with a coyote, it wasn’t pretty.  I feel for her, really.  But does she think the coyotes are going to drop that little lap dog on her door step with a note that says “Just kidding! Here ya go”?

I grew up by the woods (now chopped down… thanks, developers -____-), so coyotes coming for our animals was a part of life. It was mostly cats and ducks (which were pets, had names and everything) who disappeared on us, but the dog I had as a kid/teenager—a timid lab/whippet mix—had a run-in with them too. She went up into the trees for some reason and next thing we knew, we heard all kinds of yipping and she came racing out, scared to death, with her tail all torn up and bloodied. She ended up being okay, but then, she was a medium-sized dog and led an athletic life, which probably wasn’t particularly the case with Jessica’s. Not that any level of athleticism in a tiny dog is going to save it from a coyote…

Anyway. It’s always sad to lose an animal. Hopefully Jessica will get a bigger dog next time, once she accepts that a coyote killed Daisy.

@ScienceGal: that wasn’t really insensitive.  It was the truth.  She really should have been more careful.  Its like the people who walk their dogs without a leash then get upset when it runs out in the street and gets hit by a car.  Leashes are for their own protection.

I once saw some gators eat a horse.  Not that it has any relevance to the article.  Just a story I like to share whenever possible.

You know all the LA area coyotes are holding a meeting in the Malibu hills going “Okay, we got Daisy.  How much ransom should we ask for?”  But, what the coyotes don’t realize is that Jessica isn’t as well off as they had hoped.  This is a girl who was desperate enough to perform at a chili cook-off not too long ago!  If those coyotes were smart, they would have gone after something more worthwhile… like Oprah’s dogs.

I understand her wanting to look for her puppy, but sooner or later she’s going to have to realize that dog is in the bellies of coyotes. But who knows, maybe they dropped the dog and it ran and hid somewhere, stranger things have happened.

Ugh, this would completely and utterly CRUSH me. I feel for Jessica. I have 3 small to medium-ish sized dogs in Los Angeles as well and the coyote risk (especially since the fires) is always high.

I’m really sick of people being so insensitive towards Jessica losing Daisy. As an owner of a Maltipoo that has been lost, I feel for her so much it’s unreal. I traveled for work and my corporate apartment was opened up for a delivery without my knowledge, and my Maltipoo ran out into a forgeign state. He continued running, too, because the delivery men kept chasing him and by the time I arrived, he was running through a swamp into some very thick woods.

A few days and 600 flyers later, I was so distraught I still couldn’t come to work. I kept hope that a gator did not get him, because there is always hope and miracles do happen. Someone stopped me while I was hanging a flyer and said they believed they just saw him. I followed them to where and watched him run up a hill to a busy interstate in rush hour. He never heard me call his name, and bolted across 8 lanes of traffic. I watched my little baby get hit by a car.

Somehow, he kept running after he was hit, and once I made it across the interstate I searched everywhere for him, even hiring a private animal catcher because I believed he was hurt and hiding somewhere to die. Never found him.

On the 7th day, I had lost all hope when someone called me so say they had him. Bruised, filthy, starving and beaten up from the car- he was hiding under someone’s porch 10 miles from where he was last seen. ANYTHING is possible.

And by the way, Maltipoos are some of the fastest dogs I have ever seen. Their size makes them run circles around most larger animals, and cats as well.

I wish everyone would remember that we all cope differently, and there is no right or wrong way. What is she losing to remain hopeful? It’s been less than a week. Although Daisy was taken by a coyote, none of us were there to see if she was killed or escaped. Also, how many of you dog owners can say you would have just given up by now? Thought so.

It just seems as if Paris Hilton can keep that little thing under wraps, Jessica Simpson should have been able to also. Maybe Jessica shouldn’t get any more coyote food if she can’t be responsible for them.

That’s sad, I know how hard it is to lose a pet. I lose my dog last year, I feel for her

Yeah, it’s a fact of life. Animals eat animals.

If you’re gonna keep a pet, then you’re taking 100% responsibility for their welfare. They’re animals. They probably didn’t ask to come live with you.

Before anyone heaps their righteous indignation upon me, I have a cat of 18 years that I take full responsibility for. As soon as she was old enough to start climbing trees, she became an indoor cat. If she was a small dog, she wouldn’t go outside without a leash.
