Cupcakes For Life

Cupcakes! Who doesn’t love cupcakes? Makes me think of Sex and the City ... birthday parties ... sugary frosting ... abortion.

Wait ... wha?! Unless this is a big joke and I am just very gullible, Cupcakes For Life is a website that’s celebrating National Pro-Life Cupcakes Day today by staging a birthday party for the unborn babies of abortion. Cupcakes For Life suggests you bring a tray of cupcakes in for a group of people who, naturally, will ask, “Cupcakes! Whose birthday is it?” Then you, the cupcake baker, are supposed to say, “It’s no one’s birthday. These cupcakes represent the 50,000,000 children who weren’t allowed to be born, who never had a birthday.” The helpful “cupcake ideas” page offers suggested frosting slogans, like “Thou shalt not murder” and “abortion kills.”

Cupcakes For Life’s Q&A section even helps you deal with the nefarious problem of violent pro-choice cupcake smashers:

What if I run into a pro-choicer and they smash the cupcakes in my face?
Wipe the cake off your face and share the rest of them with someone less angry inside. Go with courage and go with love, the unborn need you to be their voice.

Are these people joking? I honestly can’t tell.

Seriously, pro-lifers, it’s fine by me if you’re against abortion as a personal choice for yourself. But do you have to go ruin baked goods for everybody? [Cupcakes For Life]

Should someone offer me a cupcake I’ll just say it’s the perfect thing to wash down the baby I just ate.

Cupcakes for all! Regardless of baby killing status smile

At least now when I eat a cupcake, I won’t be bothered with the thought of “this is going straight to my ass”.  I will be too consumed with thoughts of aborted babies to even worry about the calories! Thanks pro-lifers!

Hmm, what about all the innocent chicken fetuses that went into making those cupcakes?  Bring me a cupcake that is ethically consistent, people.

If they come door to door would it be wrong to take a cupcake and then tell them to get the hell off my property?

Y’know, I’m not going to let this ruin my appreciation for cupcakes.  But I’d eat a dead-rat sandwich before I’d take a cupcake from one of these obnoxious, pro-life ninnies.

But C. Munro it’s not the cupcake’s fault.  If we eat all their delicious delicious cupcakes they’ll have nothing to preach with.

@brandyalexander - chicken eggs are unfertilized. So unless they believe that all frozen eggs should be fertilized and brought to life then that argument wouldn’t work. I’m sure somewhere there is a pro-lifer who would say that even if a woman freezes her eggs, all those eggs should have the chance to be born.

For the cupcakes in general, yuck. I am cupcake obsessed. And still I could not eat these cupcakes. Especially not with the suggested slogans. Though I would be tempted to eat one and make a smart ass comment.

@LilMiss:  I know that, I was being colorful (though sometimes a fertilized egg does make it through). It still is ethically inconsistent to be prolife and eat eggs, since the consumption of eggs is directly linked to the slaughter of animals.

How awful to eat these tiny little cupcakes from God before they can become full-grown cakes.
I think these cupcakes would look better with a bloody icing fetus on top.

@bumbler- when they come to my door, i usually just take one and tell them i’m eating it in honor of all the women who were killed or horribly injured when abortion was illegal

Sigh…I should know better than to post on something that will likely get blown up by some yahoo on here…BUT.

I am pro-life. I would never get an abortion. However, if YOU want to get an abortion, that is your legal right and whatever the outcome, it’s your decision, not mine. But I’m not creepy pro-lifer like these folks. Who have now ruined cupcakes for me.

@brandyalexander-You know everything is better with bloody fetus icing!

Yes Bislane excellent idea.  I’m also going to need some additional cupcakes from them in honor of the women around the world who continue to die or face injuries in countries where abortion is illegal or where women can’t get access to affordable reproductive care.

WhiskyJean: It sounds more like you’re prolife in your personal life, but prochoice politically?  Most prolife people I know would like to take the choice away from other women, but it sounds like you would not.

sheesh!  jessica wakeman, overreacting much?  why can’t you accept that another group is doing something creative and fun to raise awareness?  call me crazy, but i bet if it was “cupcakes for choice!” you’d laugh and say maybe it’s a little weird, but it’s for a good cause and we should all celebrate our right to choose.

@brandyalexander, I’m a very personally conservative, however, we are all entitled to do as we please (legally) with ourselves. And that’s pretty much it. I always feel like I’m going to get some angry responses when I post on here on abortion topics and the like, because some people haven’t figured out that feminism is about being able to make choices about your life, even if you choose to do more “traditional” things or are conservative. Sigh. Sorry, rant over.

Think of how cute!

All you need is this handy-dandy cupcake hole maker http://www.thefrisky.com/post/246-crave-debbie-meyer-cupcake-genius/ advertised on this here site and then stuff the hole with marzipan babies, frost and serve.

Yum!

Whiskeyjen, you’re my new hero. If more people thought like you the world would be a much happier place and my mum (a born again Christian who thinks that gay people are ‘just confused’ and abortion is murder) and I would have much fewer arguments.
On another note, I find it rather insulting that they assume I’d smash the cupcake in their faces. I would take a cupcake, eat it, and then ask them what they would do if they were raped and became pregnant. Unless they were a man, in which case I’d just kick him in the balls and take all his cupcakes

One of my best friends is Pro-Life AND Pro-Choice, yes it is possible to be both.

That said I am surprised they didnt have them all out there buying those cake molds that let you bake a cake inside a cake and teach them how to make a mutilated fetus King cake!

Awesome, even baked goods are political now.

@equnsocha - I like to think all pro-choicers are pro-life, ideally. pro-life is a misnomer, because it makes choicers sound like they are pro-death. I think being pro-choice is about knowing that you can choose for yourself, if you had too. No one wants to have an abortion, but some people get in positions where they have to make that hard decision. I appreciate people like WhiskeyJem, because although she wouldnt do it herself, she respects a womans right to choose. the choice is what its about. As for the cupcakes, the vehement pro-lifers Ive encountered are all about shock value ( fetusmobile anyone?) and thats probably why they do this, try to catch people off guard.

I always wondered what pro-life people think of miscarriages. Do they blame the mother for killing her child? that seems like the logical step to me, but I obviously don’t follow their thought process in the first place.

Wait, my mom told me never to take cupcakes from strangers carrying signs of dead fetuses in front of the Planned Parenthood…but I really like cupcakes and the Planned Parenthood, so if I smash the cupcake in their face and then ask them to lick it off, would they give me another in their quest of courage and love?

@WhiskyJenn… you are very brave for writing about your views. Though I am a liberal (which I guess is supposed to make me hate all conservatives out of hand despite if they are intelligent and thoughtful?) I really applaud your socially open minded ideals.

@gevlife you could be right there.

i will say that my favorite line in response to a rabid pro-lifer came from none other than Howard Stern.  In 1992 he had a women on screaming about abortion and ranting and raving so much with her terrible religious (not that religious people are terrible just this woman and those like her) and racist (black women use it as birth control, yes she ACTUALLY said this) when Howard finally cut her off and asked her how many adopted children did she have?  She was silent.  He then asked her if she would be willing to go to an orphanage in Harlem with him to adopt a child of color who’s mother hadn’t “used it as birth control” there was some more silence and then.. a dial tone.

I have shut down many a self righteous misguide fanatical pro-lifer with that same question. smile

We are all entitled to our opinions but at 17 and pregnant with college looming I was insulted and my privacy was intruded upon by pro lifers outside the clinic I went to.  I have rights, the court made sure of it, so how about we all start treating each other like people and maybe we can find a common ground.

@WhiskeyJenn
I’m in the same boat as you- I don’t like the idea of abortion, and I would never want to be in a situation where that would be an option for me, but I can’t force someone else to follow my beliefs. I don’t think that anyone LIKES the idea of abortions- as in, I have yet to hear of anyone that says “yay for killing unborn children! :D”- but I’m pretty sure that everyone would want to see less of them. If you ask me, banning abortion isn’t going to make them less common. I would rather see abortion legalized and regulated like crazy. I also think that we need to spend our energy preventing women from getting pregnant in a time in their lives when the only option they see is abortion. How to go about doing that, I have no idea.

What I don’t like very much is the idea of IVF and other fertility treatments… the way I see it, what’s wrong with adopting if you can’t get pregnant for whatever reason? I’m not going to throw cupcakes at women going into fertility clinics or whatever these silly protesters do, but I really don’t see the difference between adopting and having a child that’s genetically yours. I guess some women enjoy being pregnant or just the whole “flesh and blood” concept? I really don’t know.

@sameji and whiskyjenn-thank you for reminding me that there are pro-lifers who aren’t out to control everyone’s lives, and who aren’t going to go crazy on someone who is pro-life. I consider myself pro-choice, but my views seem to square up with what you two are saying.
I lost a friend because I spoke up and told her how I felt. I was sick of being inundated by pro-life videos.
Her last words to me? “Do you know that they abort babies with autism? That could have been you.” (I have autism).
Even if she came up to my door with cupcakes, I would not smash them in her face (waste of a damn good cupcake!).
I would graciously accept one and take the high road, despite her horrible behavior. That’s what I’d try to do with anyone.
