Is Katherine Heigl Annoying?
This week Newsweek asks: “Why Is Katherine Heigl So Annoying?” a question some of us may have asked ourselves once or twice already. Newsweek wonders: “The Grey’s Anatomy’ star was supposed to be America’s new sweetheart. Now we’ve all turned on her. Is it her fault, or ours?” Ken Levine may have the answer. According to the Emmy-winning “citizen journalist,” the fault — at least for the complaint she lobbed on Letterman last week — is allegedly all hers. Heigl whined: “Our first day back was Wednesday and it was — I’m going to keep saying this because I hope it embarrasses them — a 17-hour day, which I think is cruel and mean.” But Levine writes:
Poor Katherine Heigl. What she neglected to add was this: This “cruel” shooting schedule was only to accommodate HER and her needs. The producers graciously shuffled things around so she could go off and do promotion for her new film. Also, with union rules, the producers had to pay a ton of overtime and penalties to make this happen. The thanks they get is Katherine Heigl going on national television hoping to embarrass them.
So, what do you think? Is Heigl annoying or lovable? [via NYMag]

She’s annoying because she’s ungrateful.

I agree. She’s annoying, and it’s her own fault. Going on Letterman and trying to embarrass them only made her look like a vindictive, whiny, backstabbing..diva, to put it nicely. Rule of thumb: nothing wrong w/ talking trash about work in private, but never air your dirty laundry in public b/c it only makes you look bad.

Ahem, allow me a dramatic interpretation, if you will: “Waaahhhh, I had to work 17 hours and make a ton of money for it! I’ll whine about it to everyone, because other people who have insane work hours but make a tiny fraction of what I do surely will sympathize!” Le sigh.

Yeah, I used to think i’d like to meet her. Now I pray that I don’t. And I don’t even pray. Except to ask to not meet her.

She’s a spoiled brat and she #&@$% on everyone, there is nothing sacred. If you did this at your job you’d get fired because it shows no loyalty to the company. I think they should fire her whiny no-talent butt for going public with complaint that was made to accomodate her and something they paid through the nose to make happen. In the long run she will just cost them more money than she’s worth. I also read some stuff from an interview with her and she sounded like a stuck up bitch. She said her mothers breast cancer made HER stronger. Please bitch, not everything is about you.

Nobody wants to listen to you whine about your job, especially if you get paid extremely well.

It’s one thing to whine about having to work 17 hours a day at Taco Bell for barely over minimum wage, but a whole ‘nother thing to bitch and moan when you’re getting paid thousands of dollars to be an entertainer. I agree, she’s definitely annoying.

She is representative of Generation Me. Where’s the loyalty? When Isiah Washington made that unforgiveable comment after the Golden Globe Awards, she was the first one to throw him under the bus. After countless acting nominations and a few awards, including a best supporting actress nod at the Emmys, she still had the nerve to complain about the lack of character development in the scripts for season 5. Why would any producer of an enseble cast want to work with her?
Give me a break! Her Izzie character got to cut the “fu#%ing” L-Vad. She got so much attention during Season 1 that movie offers are pouring in while Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson, Sara Ramirez and Ellen Pompeo wait with baited breath for cinematic nibbles. What an ingrate. Unless they change the show to “Izzie’s Anatomy,” we will all be better off when her character bites the dust. Good riddance! And another thing, Denny, Dylan and Ellis Grey are all allowed to come back from the dead but when Izzy dies, let it be for good!

There’s a fine line between “strong woman” and “effing bitch” and she has way crossed it. She is ungrateful, mean, snippy, and all around bothersome. I wish Izzy had died on Grey’s and not George, and it will probably be why I’m out this season. I won’t see anything KH is in. Nope, not paying for that shiz.

I used to love her before she opened her mouth. Now the very mention of her name gets an eyeroll and disgusted sigh from me. Seriously: gtfoh, Heigl.

I cannot stand her, so much so that I’m missing out on some Gerard Butler action because she’s his newest leading lady. That’s a lot of annoying if it makes me sit out a film starring Gerry the Hottie!

Ugh. Another celebrity complaining about things like 17 hour work days and the papparazzi. Those are things you sign up for when you decide to be a big movie star! If they think their fans will sympathize with them, they are quite mistaken.

@EarthGoddess I totally feel your pain, on one hand I want to see that Scottish hottie on screen but the down side is obviously MS. Hagl. The thought of her whining her way around screen and her non existant acting skills are enough to make me not see it. Perhaps I’ll get it on Netflix so I don’t feel so bad, I cannot rationalize spending money on one of her movies, with the exception of Knocked Up.

This 17 hour workday isn’t only bull because, as many have said, people work more hours for less, but because there are other television shows where the actors works even longer hours. I remember reading an interview with Hugh Laurie where he was talking about ‘House’ and how long he had to work. He never complained about it (even though he’s also in a different country than his family while shooting) he just said that it was part of the job and everyone does what they have to.
Then again, actors like him have class. Katherine Heigl has a diva complex.

THIS CHICK ALWAYS TENDS TO BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS HER. I REMEMBER AFTER THE FILM KNOCKED UP CAME OUT SHE STARTED COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW SEXIST SHE THOUGHT IT WAS. I LIKED KNOCKED UP BUT SHE RUINED IT FOR ME BECAUSE I JUST DISLIKE HER SO MUCH. BTW I LOVE GERARD BUTLER AS WELL BUT IF SHE’S IN THE MOVIE I DON’T WANT TO EVEN WASTE MY TIME. AND AS FOR HER WORKING 17 HRS. STRAIGHT FOR A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY, ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME! GIVE ME A BREAK HEIGL. U SUCK

@Riley: Not all of us use computers made in the past several decades. Those with, say, Radio Shack TRS-80s don’t have much of a choice. I’m frankly impressed that MMGEMINI20 even found a way to get it online.

maybe she thinks cuz she’s cute it’ll get her everything? idk, but i agree with most of you, she’s pretty freaking annoying. *omg i had to work a 17 hour day* well guess what? i’ve gone all day (i’m a waitress and theres a bar and we’re open most of the time and blah blah blah) and didn’t make thousands of dollars just for looking pretty, i worked my butt off :-p

Yes, she has said ungrateful things..but we all do at some point. And anything a celebrity says is magnified and overblown. Not everything out of her mouth (like Megan Fox) is stupid and annoying. I also think the comments she said about taking herself off the Emmy nomination list relayed a different meaning than she intended to do.

Uh oh. I’m going to get hammered for saying this, but I actually like Katherine Heigl’s personality. Sure, I think she’s bratty when she whines in public about the script writing and the working long hours. But at least she’s up front about it. If she were planting mean gossip items behind the scene in tabloids or something, that would be worse, in my opinion.
Furthermore, I like knowing that any interview I read with her, Heigl is going to speak her mind. She doesn’t just say “la la la blah blah blah” like other Hollywood actresses — she has strong opinions.
Besides, 17 hours *is* a long day, whether you’re making tons of money for it or not. I only think she’s guilty of having poor judgment for talking about it on TV.

Talking badly about who you work for is unprofessional, no matter if you’re a star or you’re waiting tables. Yes, everyone has issues about work, but to appear professional and mature, you don’t go around bad-mouthing people. It can and will get you in trouble, possibly even fired. If you need to vent, you do it behind closed doors. If you want things to change, you talk to the powers that be, and hopefully they will be willing to work w/ you. In the entertainment industry, getting a reputation of willingly bad mouthing projects (which she has now done twice) will possibly eventually lead to her not getting work b/c who wants to work w/ someone who may eventually trash talk the project. I wonder if she will do that with the new movie.

@Coral I love your optimism; we should all have friends like you.
@Jessica Your argument makes as much sense as defending Stalin because Hitler was worse. I do agree with your appreciation for authenticity during interviews. There is a need for more but there’s gotta be a middle ground.
@kmatters Your voice resonates the most with me. We should all be busting our asses to make your world a little easier, not complaining when we have it all.

Not only annoying, but I’m not going to lie- I find people instantly 100% less attractive when I see them smoke… and smoke, she does. I’m not sure what her worth is as a pop icon. She isn’t even that great an actress.
As an aside, I kept typing and deleting something to the effect of her not using her fame to “do good” in the world, but frankly that bugs me too. I’ve never really respected Angelina Jolie more just because of her so-called humanitarian work, for example. Real charity is done without the expectation of praise for it. And besides, if she sold some of her multiple mansions in the world, she could buy moderate homes for many homeless people- I’m just saying.
OK, side rant over. Katherine Heigl- annoying, boring, and ready to drift away into obscurity.
