I Love My Cell Phone More Than…
How important is your cell phone in your life? I feel like a lost puppy when mine runs out of batteries or I leave it at my apartment, and I am not alone. A survey conducted by Best Buy indicated that most Americans would rather give up alcohol for a week than hand over their cell phone. Sounds about right. If you can live without talking to your friends and family without seven days but can’t handle giving up vodka tonics, you have a problem. Other things respondents said they would rather do for a week than give up their phone: survive on bread and water, give up television, and have their teeth drilled by a dentist. None of this, however, is as surprising as the German survey that found the majority of respondents would rather do without their significant other or car than the internet. We’re a planet of technology addicts! [UPI]

I’m pretty sure if the building were burning and my boyfriend could save me or the iPhone, it would be the stupid phone.
There is something so wrong with that.

I could live without my cellphone AND alcohol. :D
I don’t often use it (it’s more for emergencies then anything), and I rarely drink either.

I love my phone, and I get a little paranoid without it. Whenever I go out with friends, we usually meet somewhere, and I’m always afraid if I leave my phone, that’s when something will come up, plans will change, and I’ll be the only one not to know. I have a tiny bit of crazy in me. I would be one of the people who’d rather give up alcohol instead of the phone, simply because, like many people, I live far away from my family, and I like talking to them everyday. However, I’d keep my bf over the internet. Computers can’t snuggle as well as he can. And people always look at me like I’m crazy when I try to have a meaningful talk with my laptop.

I’ve lost my phone for a week before, not a big deal. The biggest pain was that I had to go through a week of missed calls and voicemails.
Sometimes it is fun to fall off the grid for a while.

Thankfully it has never been as habitual to me as to other people. I once saw a woman break out in hives because she came to work and left her cell phone at home. What did you do in the 60s/70s/80s?

I love having my cellphone with me, it just feels ‘right’. I love being able to easily contact people if the need arises. And I really miss texting with my boyfriend during the day. I’d give up a lot of things for my cellphone, but maybe not the extreme things. If I could have my boyfriend with me, I don’t care about the phone, haha.

Oh, and @bogart4017 I have no idea how people lived earlier! Seriously, I can’t picture my life (especially being a student) without a flash card, a laptop (and internet!) and a cellphone. I feel it just makes everything so much easier!

I don’t even know where mine is half the time. I have it for emergencies—and really so the kid’s school can get me if I am out and about. I rarely use it, except to call one girlfriend because that’s where I have her number stored. And I call her once every month, maybe?
I actually could live without a PHONE, period. Land line. Cell phone. They could both be sucked up by the abyss and I wouldn’t care. I spend about a total of 90 minutes on the phone a month and if my mother didn’t call ME every freaking day, I wouldn’t even rack up that much time. I HATE the phone.
Now, texting, I could get into. Fast, easy, and to the point. I prefer that type of conversation. I don’t have to listen to the innane crap that gets included in phone conversations. However, my cell doesn’t do texts which is probably a good thing sine I’d probably do it while driving and kill myself and my kid.

Meh. My cell isn’t really that important to me. I generally just use it for texting, and even then my usage is pretty tame. I don’t carry it around the house with me or to work. Its purpose in life is to be my emergency call if I am ever in trouble, etc. Though lately I used it a LOT to talk when I was driving because I was dealing with some drama. Luckily I didn’t get a ticket as that is now illegal in Ontario. I think.
