How’d You Meet Your Last Significant Other?
We all know dating is difficult, but man hunting is even more difficult. Sure there’s a bunch of advice out there on where to meet men, but can you really trust advice that hasn’t been put into practice? So we thought it would be helpful to let you know how we met our last significant others. And there’s definitely something to be said about hooking up with a friend of a friend. In the spirit of helping a fellow sister, tell us and other readers how you met your last main squeeze, in the comments.
I met my last significant other…
...through a friend. He was her coworker.
...through a friend, but he was an acquaintance until we hung out at a bar.
...at a New Year’s party, where we made out when the ball dropped and then somehow were together for nearly five years from then on.
...on my college campus. We hung out in a large group.
...at a bar. And we’ve been friends ever since.

I met my ex through my best friend, who lives in another state. We were kinda sorta together for almost 2 years, even w/ the long distance. I don’t know if I reccommend that though…

My ex husband introduced us! My ex husband was dating my BF’s nanny. (It works for us but it’s so not recommended, just sharing for laughs.)

My boyfriend and I met at the library where we went to school - then we sent letters back and forth over the summer before getting together the next fall.
It’s been 3 years and counting.

He was my sister’s friend from college, she brought him home with a bunch of other friends. When I went to visit her at college (I was still in hs), I jumped him. Almost 8 years later we got married and now it’s been over 19 years since we first met. As we both like to say, 19 very LONG years

I actually met my last ex on myspace. But funny part is, he went to the same hs as my bestfriend and I was at many events that he was. And then a few years later I worked with a girl who’s brother was his bestfriend. She always invited me to parties at her house which he was at but I never met and he randomly found me on myspace.
I used to think it was fate that we finally met, but now I think the universe why trying to keep us apart but failed.

We hung out with the same group of people and were good friends for 4 yeara before we began dating - that was 5 years ago now and we are still going strong. He is my best friend and I must say how nice it was to date someone who I already knew inside-out.

My current BF I met at a New Year’s Eve party. It was his best friend’s and the best friend’s girlfriend’s party. and my roommate was the best friend of the girlfriend… kinda complex, but whatever. It ended up getting REALLY complicated because they all wanted to know what me & my BF were up to all the time, ugh!
but other exes I basically met through friends. Met a guy through my bff’s study abroad program, another through a friend who brought somebody to a party, etc etc.

One in the campus library after I ogled him for a while, one through the restaurant we worked at together, one through my ex-bf (they were friends but not afterwards…definitely not recommended) and current one through work scene/same social scene/his ex and my ex were good friends. Gross, I need a chemical shower.

At a 4th of July party. I didn’t even want to go, but my friend dragged me to the party so she could meet up with a guy she was casually dating. My guy’s opening line was “Would you like a cheeseburger?” It’s like he KNEW me! My friend and the guy she was seeing broke it off a couple weeks later, but my boyfriend and I are still going strong 15 months later! And our favorite date nights are checking out new burger joints around the city in search for the perfect cheeseburger.

@Lisa Marie
I also met my future husband in craiglist. Although I placed a platonic friends ad for a distraction from a recent breakup not a dating ad. He responded and we hung out for about 2 months and got to know each other. I could never get over my ex and got back together with him (horrible mistake). One year later, we met up again and became good friends. (even tho I was still dating the horrible ex) After I realized that my ex was a waste of my time, I dumped him and we got back together (not at first but when I was entirely over the ex) and are planning a wedding next year.
It feels odd to say that I met him online, but for some people it works. And trust me, not all the people you meet online are creeps. You meet creeps at bars too! I just got sick of the bar scene and wanted to try something new. Especially since I needed a huge distraction for a breakup. We still joke around about craigslist but you find lots of great things on there! apts, jobs, and apparently husbands!

I met my current boyfriend of a year and a half on eHarmony. It actually did work for me. Although, my friends have had mixed results with it. So, I guess it depends on the individual and how serious a relationship you are looking for. Definitely not the place to look for casual relationships.

I met my ex at a friend’s friend’s graduation party. It didn’t last very long but the crazy thing is we went to middle school together and didn’t even know it (we were both going to college in a different city at the time). It’s a small world after all…

the guy I went out with last night I originally met playing card games in a coffee shop! It was cute. Mostly though, I meet people online. I meet people through friends but I typically try not to date them because I hate that—every time we break up, it’s then a great big friend trainwreck.
I also meet a lot of people at concerts.

I’m a college professor and he was (an older student) in my class. He seemed obnoxious at first but eventually I realized that he was genuine and kind. We started talking one night after class and forbidden love ensued. It turned out OK; we’re celebrating our first wedding anniversary soon.

my story is weird…my boyfriend first saw me coming out of the woods….from relieving *ahem* pressure after consuming too many beers in a traffic jam that was backed up for hours (hey i live in the south). I had a friend with me, and he still laughs about it. A few months later we met up through friends but didn’t start really talking until after him and one of my buddies decided to prank call me along with other people. Apparently i was the only one that played back with the text pranks. We have been together ever since. He says he likes me because he has no clue what i will end up doing next.

My current bf and I met on vacation. We were at a really popular climbing destination where lots of people from an online community (which is mostly based on real-life friendships) ended up going that time of year. We hadn’t talked beforehand, so it wasn’t quite an ‘online dating’ thing. We just met and then kept the friendship going online (he had a gf at the time). It turns out that after 2 weeks of amazing chemistry we both went home and thought “THAT is what I’ve been looking for.”
The next year we went back to the same spot for vacation and after not having found anyone as awesome back home, started dating long distance and kept it up (despite me going to Mongolia for 3 months) until we moved in together in AZ after I graduated out east (always wanted to move west). This Christmas will be 3 years together.

I met my boyfriend at a New Years eve party almost two years ago. We were both dragged there at the last minute because we had nothing else to do. I was convinced to drive the hour to go w/my best friend to the party, and he went with his brother (who I was supposed to be set up with). Good prevailed over evil so to speak, and we ended up drunk, making out on the floor. When we woke up still cuddling on the floor in our make shift sleeping area, we never looked back. He’s the greatest guy in the world, and the keeper of the stars certainly lined them up for me that night. Thank goodness he thinks the same thing…

I met my current love at work.I hired him and fell in love about 3 months later…then he kicked my now ex-husband out of my house, forced him to leave the state and we have been together ever since.Ex-hubby liked to talk with his fists and current love wiped away many many tears and bandaged many wounds. As scary as it was,it was the best thing to ever happen to me.Had I not been so afraid of the hubby,I may not have wanted to work so much, therefore never meeting current love.Odd how things like this happen.Other than not beating the heck out of the ex,I wouldn’t change a day in the past 2+ years! It is such a joy to know that pain is gone forever.
