How To Do Your Makeup In Five Minutes (According To Whitney Port)

Whitney Port

In need of some morning makeup routine guidance? Normally, I wouldn’t look to the likes of Whitney Port for my makeup tips, but, hey, the girl’s got a pretty, five-minute easy and everyday appropriate look! (I suspect she spent a wee more than five minutes in the above photo, but you get the point…) And according to Whitney, on “The Hills” they all did their own makeup, so she taught herself what to do and how to do it quickly. So, without further ado, here’s how it goes (complete with the exact brand name products she uses)....

  1. Start by mixing Fresh High Noon tinted moisturizer with Fresh Soy Face Cream to get a nice base with a little sunkissed glow. (You can do this right in the palm of your hand, dump a little of each out and mix with your fingers!)
  2. Dust Bare Minerals Powder with SPF 15 to even out skin. Then she bronzes with Guerlain Number One for Blondes on her cheeks, hairline and jawline.
  3. Finish up with a little bit of NARS Orgasm Blush on cheekbones, a little on forehead, nose, and chin to keep it constant.
  4. Brow time, Whitney says, “I use Anastasia brow gel to give my eyebrows a nice shape (this is especially helpful if I haven’t had time to go in to get them done).”
  5. Highlight under your eyebrows with Benefit Eye Bright and then curl your lashes with a Sephora eyelash curler.
  6. And: “Sometimes if I’m really feeling like going all out for the day I put on Maybelline mascara.”

Want to transform your “day” look into “night” make-up? Easy, according to Port: “I reapply the basics and use the Stila Smudge pot with a slanted brush to put eyeliner on. For my lips I love the Fresh Sugar Lip Stain with SPF in it.” Done! [Whitney Port Official Website]

How do you do makeup like that if you don’t already have great skin?  I’ve never been able to figure it out with out looking completely made-up.

5) Have naturally dark and full lashes.

There’s no way I could just curl my lashes and go - they’re practically invisible!  Luckily, my skin is pretty good, so all I need to really do is my eyes.

6) Be really rich, because with the exception of Maybelline, those are all very expensive products.

I love love love designer makeup as much as anyone else, but I wish celebrities would just also make an equivalency list, like “hey this product by Guerlain is what I use, but I’ve tried them all and this product by Rimmel is also very good.”

Meh. I just don’t do my makeup. And if I do, it’s just a few quick strokes of the powder brush with Physicians Formula mineral powder, and maybe cover a few spots and my eyelids/under eyes with the same using an eyeshadow brush. I don’t even own an eyelash curler and I think my mascara has gone bad because it’s so old (I think I used it two or three times…?). Then again, I got lucky in the eyelash/brow department. Not so lucky in the complexion department, but whatever; I’m not at a point yet where having a zit impairs me. It’d be different if I were out there in the professional world, I suppose.

You know… come to think of it, I don’t much like how I look with makeup. I’ve only done eyeliner a couple of times where I actually liked it (both times I only achieved a look I liked while in the process of removing an eyeliner job that I hated). Don’t like how mascara looks. See no use at all for blush. Ditto for lipstick. Am no good at applying eyeshadow. Hmmm. “Five minute makeup” is pretty much all I’m probably ever going to do. Ha!
