How Sexy Is Too Sexy For A Formal Event?
“Gossip Girl” character Lily Bass got married for the ten millionth fictional time last night on the show and the wide assortment of wedding attire prompted us to pose the eternal question: How sexy is too sexy for a formal event? Unsurprisingly, Lily’s borderline slutty daughter, Serena, sat at the nearly inappropriate end of the spectrum in a strapless, boob-heavy number with a peek-a-boo skirt, while Dorota held it down on the matronly side. (That lady’s all class.) While we weren’t totally in love with the overdone embroidery on Blair’s dress, she has proven herself the queen of all things proper once again with a chic but still sexy wedding outfit. Nicely done, B.
Would you have worn Serena’s dress to your mother’s (50th) wedding?
If your answer is no, it’s probably because you know the following:
- When dressing for a wedding, it’s important to choose between boobs and upper thigh. Stick to one next time, Serena.
- If you choose to go with the “boobs” option, you should still be able to bend over a bit without exposing the girls almost entirely. Tsk-tsk if your nips are uncomfortably close to making an appearance.
- Formal wear is rarely comfortable. That does not mean it should prevent you from sitting and standing like a semi-normal human being. If it does, it’s too tight, lady!
Any other advice?

Choosing between boobs and upper thigh? Are we talking about going to the beach or a formal occasion?

I actually would wear her dress to a wedding. Particularly if the wedding overall had a youthful feel, but yeah in general I’d wear that dress..drats! I’m so inappropriate =/

I’m pretty sure my family would kick me out of any wedding if I showed up in a dress that low or that short.

The question remains: what if you have an unbelievable body like Serena? Then are you allowed more skin? I don’t think she looks horribly sexed up here, it’s just her style, and she can pull it off. But if I wore that… kick me out!

Yeah, I probably would wear a dress like that to a wedding! And it could look slutty on some people, I guess, but she looks fine to me here.

If I had Blake Lively’s boobs, I’d wear less than that!

I LOVED her dress! Whether or not it was wedding appropriate, it was gooorgeous. If anyone can tell me who it’s by, I’d be FOREVER grateful! Thanks!

Yeah, I might if I could pull it off.
But….what bothers me most is not her outfits; She’s gorgeous and almost always can pull off what she wears.
My big problem is her SLOUCHING. Stand up straight, girl! You would look 10 times better than you already do!
...Ok maybe I dont want her to stand up straight. Slouch away….and showering can go out too. lol!

Truthfully, I don’t think that’s a lot of thigh. And the dress isn’t low cut, it’s just too losse fitting around the top. I thing she looks gorgeous and I have worn “sluttier” than that to many a wedding, and I usually end up looking conseravtive compared to some other guests.

At the last wedding I attended all the ladies had wraps over their cocktail dresses at the ceremony and then at the reception the boobs came out. Seemed like a good compromise between appropriateness and having fun. Of course, I had forgotten to buy a wrap that matched the ivory ribbon on my dress (not to mention forgetting the matching purse at home, it was a destination wedding), and spent the ceremony feeling more than a little exposed! And that was with a skirt that skimmed my knees.

That’s nothing. My friend’s sister shortened her bridesmaid dress about 3 or 4 inches above the knee (they were supposed to be at knee length). My friend was so pissed.

I’m a Blaire fan forever. Serena, goodness, what an attention whore.
