How Do I Look? Gets Served
I love makeover shows, but they piss me off when the person they’re “making over” already HAS style, whether that style is in vogue or not. For example, last night i caught an episode of How Do I Look?, one of the more annoying makeover shows simply because of host Finola Hughes. Her subject was cute goth Plum who seriously DID NOT want to be made over. Her general distaste for the whole process was refreshing, really, and I totally admire her for saying just how shallow this crap is. Shallow and FUN for viewers, yes, but life-changing it is not. Clip above!

OMG! I loved this episode! I agree that she shouldn’t have to change her style if she’s happy with her personal style. I like when they make over people that want SOME kinda style, but don’t have time, etc. Only thing is..she was the one that agreed & they were only trying to help her because SHE wanted to eventually get a “professional” job. It’s not like she didn’t know what these kind of shows DO! (Don’t you have to sign a buncha papers & what not before they start shooting?) I thought it was REALLY SAD at the end that she didn’t even say like “Thanks for trying & giving up your time for something I said I wanted” at the end…especially when the adorable gay stylist (I’m blanking on his name) called her out. :(

Anna Devane is the only way I want to know Finola Hughes!
(..all I saw was this clip, but from what i can tell, Plum is cute as is. I’m glad she refused to be Banana Republiced by her styleless friends! ..however, duh, Plum, you signed a release to be on this show, what the hell did you think was going to happen? Get a sense of humor or stop signing release forms without thinking.)

I don’t have the Style Network, so I try to watch it as much as I can when ever I visit the fam in ATL. And each time I remember how much I dislike this show. Finola Hughes is the biggest problem. Her style is rather generic. And if they didn’t spend so much time trying to make the participant cry, the show could be a half-hour. So far, What Not to Wear is the only makeover show that truly needs an hour. FYI: I have a pic of Stacy London at Bloomingdale’s on my dresser to remind me of what not to wear.

Awkward! I find it hard to believe that she didn’t know what it was she was signing up for. I think it just boils down to self esteem problems and she thinks that by accepting some new clothes and playing along with the show she is fundamentally changing herself and playing into some notion of what is beautiful. Which I guess in some way is true, but come on, it’s tv and FREE threads!
