Hot Outta The Oven: Food For A Week…Cheap!

sloppy joe

We’re hoping that with this week’s election, the financial situation will straighten itself out—but it’s not going to happen overnight, so we’re gonna need to be a little more frugal. No more eating out every night! No more buying expensive salads for lunch! If you missed Teri Tsang Barrett’s “Hot Out Of The Oven” recessionista menu last week, make the dishes this week! After the jump, the shopping list and daily recipes…

SHOPPING LIST
Buy everything that you’ll need to make five meals in one fell swoop.

DINNER 1: SOY-GLAZED CHICKEN
I don’t eat meat, but Amelia says this chicken has a simple-yet-vibrant flavor.

DINNER 2: CUMIN-ROASTED CAULIFLOWER PASTA
I made this last week, and the dish has a very full taste for having despite having only a few ingredients. Plus, it’s vegetarian! Hooray!

DINNER 3: TORTILLA ESPANOLA
Another yummy veggie recipe for starch lovers.

DINNER 4: EGG DROP SOUP
I don’t know about you, but nothing tastes better to me than a giant bowl of soup on a chilly night. Just make sure it’s not so hot that you burn your tongue.

DINNER 5: SLOPPY JOES
This is an excellent hangover cure, or so I hear.
