Happy Veterans Day!
AnnaLynne McCord teamed up with Cosmopolitan, Maybelline, and the USO to collect kisses from troops on Veterans Day in Times Square. All I can say is, that poor sailor’s neck! But it is a great reinterpretation of the famous VJ Day photo. [NYC, 11/11/09]

I’m all for supporting the troops and veteran’s, but I think it’s a bit of an insult to compare this to a pic snapped that seems full of love. This just make’s whats-her-face look like a narcissistic fool.

@averardoll Actually, the VJ Day photo didn’t capture a romantic moment between long-lost lovers. The sailor was running through Times Square kissing any woman that stood still long enough.

This picture isn’t even in the correct spot….they aren’t even kissing.
Agreed on the narcissism though.

@Annika I do remember reading that the people in the original photo didnt really know each other.
@averadoll It’s not an insult at all, she said reinterpretation, not reenactment, and the soldier certainly seems to be enjoying himself. Isn’t that the point of Veteran’s Day, after all?!

Ok ...so I was wrong onthe origins of the orginal pic, all I knew of it was that most of my roommates in college seemd to own it. That aside, Anna-Lynn is not even acting remotely interested in the sailor. She is making love to the camera.

Agreed with Annika.
They are heroes, but don’t pretend like they were sappy romantics.

@spatula: If I wanted a reinterpretation of Veterans Day I’d go punch a German dude in a trench and make him sign my sneakers there by giving me a rite to walk all over him.

@Cheese - Just make sure he is shorter than you…could be difficult.

Since when did Veteran’s Day become about just WWII veterans? It’s a day meant to celebrate and be grateful for all the soldiers who fought for this country.

@LilMissSunshine: November 11th was Armistice Day, when Germany signed an armistice ending combat on the western front…so it’s not really a WW2 day, more like a WW1 day, but we lump everyone into one day…more efficient like that.
@Riley: WTF kind of thought is that?

I would never have recognized this so-called “reinterpretation” on any level. The original’s beauty was in its captured spontaneity at such a heady historical moment. This is so staged and awkward looking – he looks more like he’s been duped into trying to kiss a roll of carpet… and the carpet’s in love with itself.

Look at her body language.. she is turned away from him and towards the camera.

lol! @ retro chic. “-kiss a roll of carpet ...and the carpet’s in love with itself”. That made me laugh so hard. And I couldn’t have come up with a more accurate description myself. You should win post of the week!

@retro chic - hahahaha you got it spot on! Funniest thing I’ve heard all day.
@bethlynn00 - YES! He is sooo adorable! Glad I’m not the only one who thinks old men are cute.
And yeah, this picture is very unfortunate. I’m embarrassed for both of them that I saw this picture. Seeing this is like looking through your friends’ old pictures and finding out they used to have embarrassing spiked hair with frosted tips, or a green mohawk.
