Happy Almost Birthday, Dr. Martens!
Above, clockwise: The Original Cherry-Red Eight-Eyelet 1460 Work Boot; Sean John’s Interpretation; Vivienne Westwood’s Fishnet-Decorated Version; And Lulu Guinness’s Purple Painted Pair.
While cleaning out her closet, my sister found her beloved pair of sparkly gold Dr. Martens from high school. She wore them that night, just another sign that the brand is making a comeback. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, which is next January 4, Dr. Martens asked big name designers like Vivienne Westwood and Rick Owens to customize the original cherry-red eight-eyelet 1460 work boot. You can’t buy any of the designer interpretations, but you can get a pair of the originals and decorate them yourself. [1460Boots.com via Nylon]

I still have 2 pairs that I saved from high school. I have the black ones, i used to totally rock them with short black mini skirts and a loose T. Recently when it rained here in L.A I wore them to work! hehe.

I have a love affair with docs. I wore my first pair every day for years… to school, work, on my motorbike, everywhere… until they fell apart and were replaced by some gorgeous green patents ones. Yay, Docs!

God, I wish I still had my Docs. I would SO rock them again.

I still love them, and never stopped wearing them. I’m totally scarlet-faced to admit that now I’m a mom and am schlepping babies & toddlers around town, I appreciate the orthopaedic facet of Docs a lot more than I used to. Ugh, I cannot believe I wrote that…

I’ve just had to tell my mum to throw mine away. The holes in their soles had made them unwearable in bad weather, but I’d kept them out of sheer affection. I don’t plan to buy a new pair, but I remember them fondly.
