Go See “Paranormal Activity” Now

If there’s one thing in this world I have to thank Meghan McCain for, it’s “Paranormal Activity.” I went to see this horror movie last night, after the Daily Beast blogette wrote on her Twitter:

“Ohhh my GOD!!!!!! One of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen!!! My adrenalin is still pumping and I think I left nail marks in Ramins arm!!! What the f**k paranormal experience?!? Get ur asses to the theatre to see paranormal activity - haven’t seen a movie that good in a very long time!”

When Meghan McCain tells me to do something, I listen.

Sweet mother of God, you guys, she’s right. Scariest. Movie. Ever. Mind you, I started the movie already scared, as the previews for other movies freaked me the hell out. But the freakiness of this film, which was made for pennies and played at colleges across the country before it was picked up by Paramount, lies in the “shaky camera” style made popular by “The Blair Witch Project” as well as the realness of the two protagonists.

Katie and Micah are a young yuppie couple living in San Diego. Katie has been “haunted” by some sort of spirit or demon since she was a child and it has now seemingly followed her to the house she shares with Micah. The couple has heard odd noises in the middle of the night, water faucets have been turned on, etcetera—you know, your usual haunting stuff. In order to catch the spirit/demon in the act, Micah sets up a camera in their bedroom and, well, over the course of a couple weeks, s**t goes down. The movie had a slow build, with little glimpses into Micah and Katie’s relationship, which made me really empathize with them, plus, it also made me relax at points—which made the sudden f**king freakiness scare me even more. By the end, I was almost crying.

So, see this movie. Do not see it alone. And whatever you do, if you think you’re being haunted by an evil demon, don’t taunt it.

Listen, folks, I don’t want to be a bummer nor will I spill the beans on the movie’s plot (or lack thereof), but it’s really not worth the money.  Wait for rental.  I loved The Blair Witch Project and appreciate a good scary movie, but this one was a disappointment.  90 minutes of watching people sleep with a few startling moments thrown in.  I want my money back.

Yeah I hear it’s very reminiscent of Blair Witch with how it is shot and the build-up.  Since I long ago lost my taste for “scary” movies, I would have to skip this one.

I saw this movie when it first came out, and I liked it; however, it was not scary in the slightest.

I saw this movie last weekend, and I’m still creeped out some nights when I try to go to bed.

It’s not a scary movie if you’re unfortunate enough to be in an audience that doesn’t enjoy the creepy moments with you, and the mood is ruined. I got to see it at a film festival, and I’m so glad I did! I had to sleep with the lights on that night, I was so scared!

I read a review that made me a bit eh about this movie but I still want to see it.  The ending of Blair Witch scared the crap out of me!  I’m grateful to live in FL where there are no basements.  If this movie is like that, then it should be good for a once viewing, but probably not more.  Oh, and the shaky camera used in Blair Witch made me sick too.

I was so excited to see this movie because of all the hype. So I did. And it sucked. It’s not scary at all. I was bored, up until the last ten or so minutes. And even then I was a bit freaked, but not scared. At all.

My friend was just telling me the other day how much he wanted to see this movie. I watched the trailer and it looked okay… I might see it but i rarely get scared at movie. The only type of movies that scare me are japanese horror/thriller movie. (Watch Reincarnation, it’s super freaky.)

I saw it on Tuesday.  The 13 year old too-cool-for-grade-school squeeky girls behind me thought it was lame, but myself and the rest of the audience liked it.  There are a couple parts I found genuinely horrifying.  To qualify, I found the Blair Witch Project, Exorcism of Emily Rose (parts), and Exorcist to be pretty scary.

I remember seeing Blair Witch and thinking it was pretty stupid/lame. This movie, I thought, would be the same. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t! It was really freaking scary. I won’t lie, there were some tears streaming down my face towards the end. Don’t tell anyone though.

This scared the heck out of me, oh my god. I’m an atheist with no belief in the supernatural whatsoever, but for the past three nights I have been laying in bed with one eye open, looking for any inexplicable movement. Just the suspense in the film was amazing. There’s virtually no violence or gore or even intense action, but every time the camera switched to that static panoramic view of the bedroom goosebumps ran down my arms. GO SEE IT. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since I saw it.
