Girls To The Left, Boys To The Right. Politically Speaking, Of Course.
Girls are sugar and spice and everything nice, and they may make you … liberal? A new study shows that those who have daughters are more likely to be Democrats than those who have sons. Why? Because parents with daughters, particularly fathers, feel strongly about gender equality and reproductive rights, making them sympathetic to left-wing parties. Or, in the words of one commenter, “Maybe this explains why my dad has become so much more liberal as he’s gotten older. (I’m the third of his three daughters. No sons.) Or maybe it’s because his Republican party went all bat-s**t insane.”
Let’s take a look at some famous liberals with daughters: Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Bill Cosby, Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, John Edwards. And then there’s the anomalies: George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Sarah Palin.
Does this study ring true for you? [FiveThirtyEight]

If that’s your list of anomalies, you should add John McCain to it. That being said, I think the only one of those who is truly an anomaly is Governor Palin—the others have surprisingly liberal ideas when it comes to their daughters. (Don’t believe me? Just watch Meghan McCain’s interview with Stephen Colbert the other night—or read her blog!)

What about dads who have both a daughter and a son? Or is this between dads that have daughters (and maybe sons) and dads that have JUST sons?

Nope, my rents are still very republican- though, to be fair, socially liberal (for the most part). I think it’s because they have money. Typically, people with money want to keep it, especially since they worked hard and earned it. Can’t say I blame them.

Eh, My father is Republican (in matters of voting, war and money) and my mother Democrat (in matters where my father can’t hear…). My fiancee’s parents are both Republican (his mother RABIDLY so) and he and I are both Democrat.
I’m thinking yet another theory that…really isn’t true. Political views are based on a multitude of things, not just female rights.
