A Gay Exorcism?
I never saw “The Exorcist,” but it cannot be any more disturbing than this real life video of what’s being called a “gay exorcism” performed on a 16-year-old boy in a Connecticut church. The kid looks like he’s having a seizure while being whipped around as a man shouts for his “homosexuality” to come out. (Double meaning probably not intended.) At one point, the boy pukes all over the people circled around him. Not sure why the church filmed this abuse, but the original 20-minute video has since been taken down from the church’s YouTube account. So here is just a glimpse of the shocking footage.

This happened in Bridgeport, Connecticut, which is the large city next to the town I grew up in. That part of CT is not known for being particularly socially conservative at all, so I can assure all of you that this particular church is in the minority as far as how the locals feel about homosexuals.
But I’m seriously THISCLOSE to calling Child Protective Services of Bridgeport and reporting this as child abuse. What awful people.

This represents a whole lot of what is wrong with the world.
I don’t know if I’m more angry or more sad.

I don’t think there’s actually a need to report this abuse - The story made it into Express (the Washington Post free daily) this morning. So it’s getting press attention, which will probably grow once advocacy groups get more details. CPS of Bridgeport is probably well aware of it by now.

i read in one report that the 16 year old asked for this type of help… im of the mind that if he asked for it and his guardian’s consented to it ..then he should be free to practice what ever he wants to get rid of whatever he wants if he doesnt want to be a homosexual and he wants to go through his church to try and change and his guardians are okay with it then so be it… im not going to judge him…. as far as posting it online i think that is inapporpriate especailly if the minor did not give his consent.

I think that the only thing this church did wrong was post this video. I have been in revivals and have seen things like this happen to people before. Thats the problem with some churches today. We do not need to put cameras in the church. we live in a world that makes a mockery of this kind of practice to post this is like giving the world a gas keg and letting them douse our religion and then, light it for all the world to see. if what wonder_bread says is true that gives even more reason that what they did was fine. Its too much for some people and what goes on within the four walls of any church should be between that church and its members. Once u start posting things and having a youtube page, u open yourself up to whatever people wanna believe. All i can do is pray for them and pray that if the boy was delivered and that he wanted it, that he walk in it and not allow anyone or anything change his mind otherwise

I’m trying very hard not to judge this situation, but(even if he “asked for this type of help”) honestly, how much social pressure do you think went into this boy’s decision? yes, to an extent, what goes on in the church is it’s members’ business. But to those of us who have dealt with our church community rejecting us for sexual orientation, the “he asked for it” explanation isn’t cutting it. especially considering that this boy is just a teenager.

I’m looking forward to watching the local news tonight and see what is being made of all this. CT never has a great reputation, people assume we’re all rich, over-the-shoulder sweater wearing yuppies who own boats and golf club memberships, and now to have video out nationally of a local church performing a “gay exorcism”? That is ridiculous. It is sad to think that in 2009 people are still of the belief that this is acceptable and should be practiced. Not only should the teen be accepted for his orientation, but he should not be a part of questionable practices such as this.

well at the moment that is something we don’t know. No one can say whether he was pressured or genuinly didn’t want to be that way.. i can’t say that his gaurdians bein supportive is proof that he wasn’t pressured becuz parents can pressure just as bad as religious folks. but i can say that whether the boy wanted it or not it was done and someone in the church used poor judgement by posting it on the internet for the world to pick apart.. luckly the boys face in the clip couldnt be seen well it could have a very negative effect on his life if people are judgemental

Well, as was mentioned, he IS a minor. So it disturbs me that he would be allowed by his guardians to do this. Regardless of whether or not he chose to do this without their permission, it’s awful to watch, I seriously doubt its effectiveness, and things like this probably wouldn’t exist anymore if there weren’t such pressure for people to not be gay.
It’s like saying people in cults chose to be in them and therefore we shouldn’t condemn the cults. A lot of the victims were vulnerable and pressured.
