Since creation, man has been an entity unto himself and woman has been his counterpart. First, God made man; then he made him a girlfriend. Men are the protagonists of our children’s stories, the majority of our doctors, generals and CEOs, the president, Jesus, God, Allah and Buddha. All “men” are created equal. To deny that man is the dominant gender is to deny our vernacular, religion, culture and art.
It’s no surprise, then, that men traditionally perceive themselves as fully functioning individuals with or without a partner. Men want and seek long-term companionship, but these relationships aren’t necessary to their sense of self. They have learned to feel complete regardless of whether they are sharing their lives with someone. In fact, the more successful the guy, the more it seems he pairs off with a woman who is no more than a pretty face: a trophy wife. Read more ...

Yes, of course, because if I'm successful and rich I don't need any sort of real companionship, just a hot boytoy.

I've always considered myself to be the opposite of a trophy wife, so I'd really rather not marry a trophy husband. I would complain about this being another example of TF causing controversy, but it's a YourTango link. That should have told me I was going to be annoyed.

I like to look at my boyfriend. He's kind of gorgeous, if I do say so myself, but that's not why I'm with him..well maybe a small portion ;-) The idea of a trophy wife or husband seems so ridiculous to me. There's no way I would stay with someone just because of their looks if they made me crazy. What's the point.
A man doesn't need a partner to validate him, so it doesn't matter if her brains don't measure up to his.
Wait, wait wait... so if I date/marry a guy who is my intellectual equal, I do it in order to validate myself? Is that what this article is assuming? Huh. That certainly doesn't mesh with my thoughts on the matter. But then again, I'm just intelligent, not ambitious in the way that the article is describing these people (like Donald Trump and Cindy Gallop). If I were an exceptionally ambitious person, maybe it would rub me the wrong way to be married to a man who was similarly driven and type-A. We would never have time for each other, and our goals might conflict (like our careers might pull us towards different cities for that big promotion, etc). But the way I am, I couldn't stand to be married to a guy who didn't have a life of his own. I do want an equal. It'd be the only way to keep things interesting (which wouldn't be the case if he were a trophy husband) and maintain my self-respect (which would be difficult if I were the trophy wife).

"To deny that man is the dominant gender is to deny our vernacular, religion, culture and art."
When one of the two top contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination of 2008 was a woman and is now Secretary of State, when two women sit on the Supreme Court and other women are the judges of many lower, but still very significant courts, when the language is changing daily to reflect these and many other changes, doesn't this sentence come off not only as deliberately, thuggishly stupid, but also something that might have come out of the '50s of last century?
By the way, if you click on the YourTango.com hyperlink above the story, you get a message that says YourTango.com has placed anything on this site. Oh, no?
Then it can only be an ... impostor! Uh-huh.
