Forever 21 Debuts A “Punk” Line, Sid Vicious Rolls In His Grave
Forever 21 debuted their “Twist” line online today, which they call “Fashion With A Twist Of Punk!” I love shopping at Forever 21 so I checked it out. I found a very cute swing-y, satiny gray skirt ($19.80) I love and a shiny, black-and-gray striped strapless dress ($24.80) that’d be cute to wear out dancing. But really, the Forever 21 Twist clothes are about as authentically “punk” as Avril Lavigne is ... which is to say they’d have Sid Vicious rolling in his grave. Let me tell you how it is, young mall rats: Real punks would and do not shop at Forever 21. Real punks ripped their own clothes up. Real punks pierced themselves with safety pins and didn’t cry about it. Real punks rolled in their own piss on the floor at CBGB. Got it? [Forever 21 Twist]

Twist of Punk, like a twist of lemon… in your waterglass. They’re just marketing to the tweeners and teens.

The looks are very cute, but calling this “punk” is like calling Obama a Nazi.

Sid Vicious isn’t rolling in his grave—the Sex Pistols were ALL about the fashion. Manager Malcolm McLaren used the Sex Pistols in no small part to advertise his fashion boutique. The part about ripping up your own clothing and pissing yourself, yeah, that part is right, though.

you know, hot topic isn’t for everyone…after the manic panic fades, this is totally the perfect look for the girly-girls who are looking for a little angst-y edge.
and that grey skirt? yeah, i bought it yesterday when the line launched.
and the last twist collection, cirque…those tulle skirts and funhouse dresses…be still my heart. so what, i’m 25 — no judgements please!

let’s remember something - Sid was all fashion and no music. He was a Sex Pistols fan and was asked to join the band because of his look. He wasn’t a musician, when they asked him to join the band he had to ask Lemmy Killmeister to teach him how to play. He has no right to roll over in his grave because F21 commercialized the punk look since he commercialized punk music.

I concur with the Sid comments. He was horrendously untalented on his bass. His punk legacy lies more in the attitude than the music. If we’re going with someone who would really roll in his grave b/c of the current pop-punk desecration, that’d be Joe Strummer.

Please. These clothes do not count as even remotely punk. You can’t see ANY of the track marks or bruises!

Hmmm…stand these models up next to a 1980’s version of Wendy O. Williams and then tell me who’s punk.
