Comedian Gets Sued By Her Mama-In-Law

Stand-up comedian Sunda Croonquist is being sued by her mother-in-law. Why? Because in her comedy routines, Sunda—like, oh, every other comedian ever—makes fun of her background, mainly the fact that she’s half-black, half-Swedish, was raised Catholic and is now married to a Jewish guy. Her mama-in-law, Ruth Zafrin, says that she’s been defamed by Sunda’s jokes, which allegedly portray her as racist and ultra New Jersey-esque. Croonquist claims her hubby’s fam used to laugh at her routine, but decided it was no laughing matter when she put info about them on her website that gave away their identity. I know, she’s pointing out sterotypical differences that are quite funny and not for nothing her mother is a dramatic bitch for bringing this to the court. What a waste of time and money for something that is a reality and is just a bit of fun. Maybe if she doesn’t like being part of the act she could be nicer to her daughter in law, stop being a #&@$% sterotype, oh and lean to get thicker skin. I know it’s not nice to be made fun of, I’m the only white person where I work, people think because I’m white i’m a valley girl and a rich bitch. I’m not, I’m a redneck from the country and have an education. But I know it’s all in good fun and we all laugh.

can anyone say ‘frivolous lawsuit?’ It’s a comedy routine, it’s just how it works. To sue for something like this is just plain stupid.

Seriously? If I were the mother-in-law, I’d probably be laughing along with it. It’s ridiculous to be insulted by this.

Was it appropriate to bring the issue to the court? I know almost everyone is guilty at one time or another of making mother in law jokes, so why should Sunda Croonquist get sued for it? Sunda Croonquist, the comedienne, is having a lawsuit brought against her by her mother in law, Ruth Zafrin, for making jokes at her expense – something everybody does. She made jibes about her in-laws being surprised with her, since she is half African, half Swedish, and though her in-laws are Jewish she had converted to Judaism prior to meeting her husband after growing up a Catholic in New York.
