Famed Koala Killed By Chlamydia
A tough-ass koala that survived predators, life in the wild, and even the terrible brush fires that devastated 2,000 homes and killed hundreds of Australians, couldn’t beat chlamydia. Samantha, the four-year-old eucalyptus-loving koala, sadly passed away today from the STD. After surviving the traumatic blaze, Sam became a symbol of hope for the country that suffered so much loss when a firefighter rescued her burned body live on television.
After months in the hospital healing, Sam found love with a boyfriend named Bob, but unfortunately he gave her chlamydia and it went undetected until it was too late. Let this be a warning to us all—use a condom! Love can save you from a lot, but not chlamydia, which usually shows no symptoms. Did you know that according to the CDC’s report, there are roughly 1.5 million cases reported in America each year and that number is on the rise? Worse yet, women between the ages of 15 and 34 are the highest risk group. Yikes! So, you’ve got to use protection and get your pap smeared on the regs. Do it for lil’ Samantha—let her death not be in vain! [Sky News]

I’m a little confused… is this real? How did a Koala get Chlamydia exactly?

I was at the “Museum of Sex” yesterday and read that Koala’s are prone to STDs.

Don’t blame it just on Bob. Let that be a lesson about looking for love in all the wrong tree crotches. Seriously, poor baby. Severe burns suppress/disrupt the immune system in humans – could explain why her disease advanced so quickly, or be treatable otherwise. :(

I have always wanted to go to the Museum of Sex. It’s right across from Parsons.

It’s so sad. Don’t they have STD testing for koalas? I mean, if they are prone to STDs, why not?
