Ever Bought Shoes You Couldn’t Walk In?

high heels

I very recently bought a pair of Christian Louboutin heels for $85 at a sample sale—ah-mazing deal, right? Well, turns out, not so much. They’re a size too small and perilously high, way too high for my heel-walking abilities. But, yeah, I still went ahead and bought them even though I could barely walk around the try-on area with them on (let alone a city sidewalk). Still, I love them and because of that adoration, I actually wore them out last weekend. Bad move. I had to go home about an hour after I arrived due to the fact that I was hobbling, painfully hobbling, around. I’m going to get them stretched a half size, but I am certainly not the only person out there who’s bought and never worn a pair of shoes ...

In fact, judging from the shoes that went down the runway at the spring 2010 Alexander McQueen show, a lot of ladies will soon be snapping up shoes they also can’t walk in. Not only do they look like that, above on the left, but even editors at British Vogue couldn’t handle walking in them, apparently. (You know we’re all in trouble then!) Have you ever bought shoes you knew you couldn’t walk in just because you couldn’t resist them? [Vogue UK]

done it and still have the shoes, not sure why though. Maybe hoping one day they will miraculously fit.

If the shoes are leather, you might try taking them to a cobbler and having them stretched. You can get them stretched up to one full size.

Put a ziplock bag of water in the shoes and freeze them.  The water will freeze and expand, stretching the shoes. You could do it a few times if necessary.

Unfortunately, about 30% my shoes are in this category. Most of them were steals though which is why in the store I thought “Yes! I can wear them” and then after talking three feet out of my apt realized “Oh… not really.” But they’re still hot shoes grin

Can somebody please explain to me why would you risk serious body injury (and/or falling flat on your face and loosing your teeth) just to say that they own/wear/can afford a pair of [insert designer’s name here]‘s shoes? And I’m not talking about style and fashion; I like pretty shoes too but, for me, the whole point of getting nice, in style shoes, is to be able to wear/walk in them. Not kill myself. Not atrophy any part of my body. I’m talking about these extremely disproportionate widgets that designers call shoes (without getting into the whole (overly) priced issue; that is for another column).

Why? Oh why? Is it even worth it?

my sister made all her brides maids wear the same horrible sandals for her wedding. I wore them for a few hours the day before and they were fine. Somehow on her wedding day they gave me a blister on my big toe and I only had to walk about 200 feet in them. Luckily she didn’t notice when I ditched them for the reception.

Um, yes! I bought these super cute brown heels with teal and gold “paisley” design on them. They have a cute little bow on the top and the inner side of the heel is completely open. Oh and the soles are bright red. Too bad they are too big. I tried getting inserts for the back of the heel, but, no luck. Anyone a size 9 1/2? Maybe 10?

Cinderella syndrome. Silly as it is - those shoes somehow are more powerful than a super sexy matching bra and panty Wonder woman set that only you know about.  They are a boost, they make you feel sexy/powerful/fun/flirty/edgy/cool/different. Putting on those shoes makes you feel like you are someone else or at least helps you focus on that part of yourself you want to bring out. They are the corner stone that makes or breaks an outfit. Guys may have lucky underwear we have drop dead gorgeous stilettos. I sigh over those shoes in the window, but have realized that as much as I love them, and how I look in them, if I can’t wear them for more than 2 hours - than its not worth it. So my shoes are mostly Mary Janes that I can wear all day - but if I could, I’d only wear pinup shoes. I think I’d even wear them to bed.
