Etsy Find Of The Week: Jibri Clothing

jibri dresses from etsy

Indie fashion, we love you, but we get it—most of the time you’re made for the ladies small enough to go braless, not for curvy ones. That’s where Jibri steps in, a line tailored for sizes 14-24, replete with that independent sensibility you see all over Etsy. Some of the dresses take vintage inspiration with ‘50s-era classic cuts (think fancy “Mad Men”-esque pencil skirts with ruffled peplums), while there are also high-waist skirts that beg to be worn sexy-style to the office. For a solid buy, check out the selection of LBDs, which incorporate cute details like bubble hems or one-shouldered necklines. Don’t miss: the Hand Painted Spring Jacket with its retro Jackie O-style and the Anti-Wallflower Dress (ha!), a strapless number with a pink and purple floral print. The prices are on the steep side, but keep in mind that Jibri lets you specify sizing and measurements. So your indie fashion can find a perfect fit. [Etsy]

Damn it.  Love the style, too scrawny for the clothing. Totally craving a Mad Men style outfit.

@katzy most clothing on etsy is much more expensive than those you’d find in stores.  All things (other than vintage or supplies) have to be handmade meaning these people are sewing these clothes themselves and have to be compensated for their time.  The benefit is that the materials are usually better, the quality of sewing is better, work practices are ethical and you’re much more likely to find something unique and more carefully tailored than in a store.

Correct @ Bumbler! Also…why don’t plus sized consumers price compare with straight sized garb of the same style and quality? Many of those dresses are completely in line with the design, fabric (natural fibers instead of stretch polyester) and quality of the straight sized counterparts which sell for triple the price. Just curious as to why a silk blouse in a size 2 sells for $750 but a silk blouse in a size 22 needs justification to be priced at $120. I guess the rumor that plus sized women don’t spend money on their clothes may be true. That’s why eeeevvveeerryything is online only and designers refuse to make plus pieces in equal style or quality (if they make it at all). I get so upset that good plus designers disappear everytime they emerge because this is what the industry constantly reports.

Love this stuff! We get a lot of requests for plus clothing - but we need tips on how to approach ladies to get fitted. We understand this is a touchy subject for many. Any thoughts?
