Etsy Find Of The Week: Dimmalimm Pillows
Sometimes, the most pleasing decor items aren’t the ones with the cute colors and flashy prints, but rather those with simple, understated details. Take, for example, these pillows from Etsy seller Dimmalimm, a mother-daughter team based in Los Angeles. We love how the designers look to the fabric itself (all sustainable and locally-purchased, by the way) to make the pillow unique, experimenting with pleats, bunching, or sculptural creations. The Crater pillow draws inspiration from Japanese design with layered circular indents crafted from a white silk and hemp fabric. For something a bit warmer, try the Weave model, a charcoal-colored cushion with a small criss-cross layering detail in one corner. Of course, if you don’t want to go the minimalist route, you can also check out the varieties covered in beautiful kimono silks. [$95 and up, Etsy]

I don’t get it… are the pillows supposed to look like silly bumholes?

I love the Frisky, and it’s the only site I browse daily. But seriously - please, authors, have some connection to your readers. Most of America is living paycheck to paycheck. If your readership is any way representative of America as a whole (the best I have to go on, as I don’t know the stats on your readers), then you’re not writing for the majority of your readers. A $95 throw pillow? Or this week’s groceries? Of lately, I’ve actually found myself quite irritated by articles like this. Are you truly that disconnected from most of America?

I totally agree!! I was ALL for them until I saw the price. Unless that $98 comes with a couch/bed for the pillow to go on, it’s a little steep! But gorgeous nonetheless

Thank you The Frisky for your write up, we are really excited and happy as we literally just launched our collection one week ago!
We understand that not everyone can afford these pillows. We are far from rich ourselves and are in the same boat as most Frisky readers, we cant afford 90% of the content of the magazines. But we love to make these and we consider them our art and craft. The way we see it, pillows can be as much art as a painting or a sculpture and that is how our pillows are made. Etsy carries handmade items, and our pillows are made by hand in our tiny Los Angeles studio, to order and from expensive material which is very durable, so much that these pillows may one day become an heirloom item to pass on to your grandchildren. The construction of the cases is labor intensive and the fit and construction took a long testing process to perfect.
To celebrate our opening and the Frisky post, we are offering Frisky readers a special price of $95 on our sculptural pillows covered in this story, and $65 for the Kimono line mentioned. The offer ends on Oct 31st midnight Pacific time. Send us an email on Etsy to tell us you would like to buy, and we will create a special listing for you with the updated price.

@ Dimmalimm - I really appreciate your weighing in. I can see a high price for something that is more art than home decor. Also, the quality sounds impressive.
I have one piece of “real art” that I paid $400 for (the artist let me pay over time). It was just something that when I saw, I actually felt an ache to walk away from. I love it and it makes me happy each day to look at it.
I’m not quite sure what distinguishes art from home decor, and I still can’t afford your beautiful pillows, but I can see why they’d be worth the price.
Maybe it is as simple as art makes you feel something, and home decor is mostly utilitarian…but this is way off topic.
