Miley Cyrus

A lot of celebs claim that they would love to be anonymous for a day. But then they seem to be perplexed or even insulted when it actually happens. Recently, when Miley Cyrus dined at NYC burger joint, Pop Burger, she was exasperated when the counter guy asked for her name for the order. A witness said that she went so far as to chide the unsuspecting employee. “Are you serious? You don’t recognize me?” she said. “I’m Miley Cyrus.” I guess she was just “being Miley.” Translation: a teenage egomaniac. [NY Post]

But Miley’s not the only celeb that has managed to go out in public thoroughly undetected. After the jump, some more celebs that went incognito.

Rose is right. Ewan McGregor's role in Star Wars was Obi Wan Kenobi, not Han Solo. Han Solo was played by a hot young Harrison Ford.

One summer, I worked on Restaurant Row in NYC and I sat these girls by a window (it was the only table not in the lounge area). This girls threw a hissy fit, saying they could not sit by the window b/c they were actresses. I stared at them in disbelief before bringing them to the lounge. I still have no idea who they were, and being famous is no excuse for acting like a toddler.I've seen/meet celebrities before, and the only time I had an internal freakout was Dr. Paul Farmer.

I don't pay enough attention to celebrities to care who they are. After all, I spend my time doing more productive things, like pay attention to whats being voted on in congress that can actually change my life, since I know a movie isn't going to do shit for me if I get sick...

Somehow I have a hard time believing they didn't recognize Angelina. Maybe they just decided to leave her alone.There are 2 actors that come into where I work a lll the time, and we never call attention to them, because they're just people going about their day.(Jason O'Mara and Paige Turcio-- their kid is adorable.)To be fair, they aren't on par with Angelina, but still.How do they KNOW they didn't recognize her?

If I ever noticed a celebrity nearby--which I probably wouldn't because I don't know that many celebrities by face, and I'm not a "fan" of any of them--my actions would be motivated by one of two sentiments:1. Act natural, I'm sure they don't like it when people start freaking out over them in public,or 2. Act natural, it might just be someone who [i]looks[/i] like them, and it would be super embarrassing if I revealed that I thought they were a celebrity. Either way, act natural. I would probably avoid looking at them or going over near them, too, but then again, if I were an employee in the store, or wherever, I'd treat them as much like any other customer as I could. At least, I think I would. I've certainly never been in that situation, so I can't tell you 100% what I'd [i]really[/i] do.

I'm with Anniushka. I imagine not harassing people is a very nice thing you can do to show you care.MissChaotic, IMHO paying attention to Congress is more frustrating than it is productive, since you have little influence. A movie can be a very intimate personal and therefore life-changing experience. I say that only because your tone sounded a wee bit self-congratulatory over on this side of the screen.

Living in NYC I've seen a few people, last week it was Matthew Broderick, but because it's NYC and everyone just wants to be left alone and it's RUDE to come up to them I just kept walking. No offense but these are people going about their daily lives, the ones who want constant recognition are ass-holes and deserve to be ignored. Just because you are famous does not mean you'll be getting different treatment from me!

back in '99 I was in a hotel pool in Hawaii trying to get in on a game of water volleyball - the people were less than friendly so I just rolled my eyes and swam away. apparently (according to other guests) it was some of the cast of American Pie which I hadn't seen at the time so had no idea they were (*GASP!*) CELEBRITIES and thus I was unworthy to be in "their" side of the pool...

Jessica Simpson came to our restaurant in southeastern Wisconsin over Memorial Day weekend while she was in the area visiting Tony Romo's family. None of us said anything, including the other guests (and this was in a full restaurant with a group of 12 or so teenagers sitting fairly close by). I was surpised at how tiny she is especially since she was wearing a Cowboys sweatshirt that looked ready to swallow her (talk about dressing incognito! :D). The place exploded with excited chatter as soon as she was out the door and not a moment sooner. We were all very proud of ourselves, considering the fact that no celebrities ever come to Racine, WI...Note: She said that the bloody mary she ordered was "too tomato-ey", which might have been annoying if she hadn't laughed at herself for saying it. The fact that she left a nice tip didn't hurt, either ;]

About 8 or 9 years ago when Coldplay were just starting to get some momentum, they practiced and recorded at the same studio as my band. One day, we were sitting in the reception area and could hear a band playing in the main practice room. Someone came in and asked the guy at the reception desk: "who's that? They're really good." He said, "Oh, it's just some band named 'Coldplay'." Wow. That seems like a million years ago........Also, the best story I've ever heard about a celebrity not being recognised is this:My friend told me that he was at a gig for some old rock band (can't remember the name of them) and it was in a small bar out in the middle of nowhere. He was standing with his friend and said, "hey, the dude behind you looks like a really old, burnt-out, Robert Plant." The guy standing behind him, heard the comment and said, "I AM Robert Plant." Yep! It was THE Robert Plant looking burnt out and ancient. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha....He was good natured about it, though.
