Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Especially If You’re A Lesbian.
I am probably not alone in thinking that “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is one of the suckiest pieces of legislation ever. The 1994 policy essentially says that peeps who are openly gay can’t serve in the military. That said, if you’re gay and don’t mind keeping it a secret, then by all means serve your country. Interestingly, a new report shows that “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is even suckier for lesbians than it is for gay men. In the army, 36 percent of the soldiers fired last year for playing for the same-sex team were women. That doesn’t sound huge—until you remember that only 14 percent of soldiers are women. Similarly, in the Air Force, 56 women were dismissed last year for being lesbos while 34 gay men got the boot. Barack Obama, can you get on this issue, please? We know you got the Peace Prize, but you still got a lot of work to do! [CNN]

Ya know, there are plenty of openly gay/bisexual men and women in the military. As long as they don’t flaunt it or say outright to their commander “I’m gay.” it usually isn’t a huge deal. My guess is that most of the people who got kicked out wanted out.

Twinkles has it right. The reason these people were kicked out is because they wanted out its a way to get out early if you dont want to serve any more. My guess half of them are not gay / Lesbian.
How ever hot i think it is to see lesbian women in uniform. I believe the Dont ask dont tell policy is one of the best pieces of legislation that has been past. If our troops have to worry about same sex advances and to fight a war its going to preoccupy them and that results in being shot. The rule is there because alot of people in the military dont want to know. This keeps people in line and disciplined. This is what you need in a army for it to do its job right.
I shall stop my rant there.

I completely agree, because all gay men and lesbians just love to make advances on straight people. I can’t tell you how many times hot lesbian chicks have made really distracting advances on me. I really wish they would just hide their identities so I wouldn’t have to worry about it.

“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”—does this apply to heterosexuals also?
I’m all for not asking or telling. It should not matter whether you sleep with: men; women; family members; or sheep. As long as your sleeping with something doesn’t interfere with your duty eg. sleeping with a sheep while you’re supposed to be landing a fighter jet on an aircraft carrier.
I think anyone of any sexual preference shouldn’t bring it up at work at all as: 1) it is none of anyone’s business other than yours; and 2) you’re supposed to be doing your job - not talking cr@p about what you’re up to at night.

1) Sexual harassment regulations still apply so if someone is being distracted by unwanted continuous advances you have ways to stop it.
2) Heterosexual men and women currently serve together so the idea that homosexual relationships could be anymore distracting than heterosexual is laughable.
3) Equal rights are not predicated on whether or not most people want to acknowledge that gays exist. I’m sure heterosexuals in the armed forces are allowed to have pictures of their family, talk about their wives/husbands back home while homosexuals do not have that option. Why should they not have the same comforts afforded to heterosexuals?

Being bi/homosexual doesn’t mean that a solider is going to harass/hit on everyone. “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is an absolute crock.
I’m straight, but know plenty of bi/homosexual people. Guess what? They don’t hit on everyone. If someone is attractive, they may pay more attention and try asking them out, but nothing different from what any of us would do.
Sadly, our military has plenty of proof that heterosexuals are just as capable of sexual harassment. So, what are they going to do? Ban anyone who isn’t asexual?
I support the troops-all of them. If they are off fighting for our freedom, the least we can do is support their rights and freedoms.

Ellis, what you wrote just shows how moronic you are. I think you should think before you type any sort of opinion., because stating that “all gay men and lesbians just love to make advances on straight people” is not correct. Never Use the term “All” in anything. People in general will make advances towards others, no matter what gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation they are. If you have lesbians hitting on u, assuming you are a female, then maybe you need to change something about yourself. Maybe you go to gay places without realizing it? Maybe you unconciously flirt with females not knowing your crossing a boundry that lets them think your into them. There are so many things that you cant blame everyone for making advances if your not paying attention to your surroundings. The whole “Dont Ask, Dont Tell” is stupid, however, depending on the branch your in and what type of people you are surrounded with, it does sometimes keeps some soldiers alive. Everything has its pros and cons, and there are a lot of homosexuals in the military, and most of the time you know who is and who isnt and everyone is fine with it, it’s the PDA and flaunting that are unnecessary.

AAHHHHH, ignorance and the lack of educaton on a subject is bliss isn’t it? For one, Obama killed the don’t ask don’t tell policy about 6 months ago. Additionaly, in my experience with women in the military, atleast 50% of them are trying to get out. I am probably giving women in the military the benefit of the doubt with that number. Just ask anyone who has served with women, and they will tell you that most of them will get pregnant just prior to getting deployed.
When the don’t ask don’t tell policy was in effect, you had to tell someone, aka make it known that you are homo/bisexual, to get kicked out. So, these women knew exactly what would happen when they stated that they are sexually attracted to other women. So, they wanted to get out. Now, how is this anyone elses fault but their own?
