Doin’ It With Dr. V: Can Pre-Cum Get You Pregnant?
This week, I got a question from a sexy lady whose been hanging around some loose se(a)men. Bon voyage! But before she sets sail care-free, she’s wondering:
“I feel silly asking this, but when I’m having sex with my boyfriend, right before we begin, something comes out of his penis. I hesitate to call it pre-ejaculate, because after it leaks out we do it for a long time and he eventually comes. Do you know what this is? Does it have sperm in it?”
Puh-lease do not be embarrassed. Even the experts aren’t really sure how to answer some of your questions. As for Dr. V, I got you boo.I once dated a drip that had his own leaky faucet. Actually, he was more like the busted fire hydrant of pre-ejaculatin’ and I swear, he got wetter from foreplay than me!
From your description, it sounds like that’s what’s up with your dude. FYI, pre-cum should be more watery than the stuff that comes out when he’s actually blowing up. Also, men can pre-ejac anywhere from a few droplets up to 5 milliliters of fluid. And it can happen any time the guy is really feelin’ it, so don’t let the term pre-ejaculate confuse you. It doesn’t come skipping out, holding hands with the big O. As long as things are hot, he can hose it down with some pre-cum.
Surprisingly enough, a guy can’t tell when pre-cum comes out because he doesn’t feel a particular sensation from the involuntary response. Most times you can’t tell when it’s going on because he’s already inside you. Keep in mind, men only fire a warning shot when they’re in position and turned on. But is he shooting blanks?
This is a highly debated topic and there’s no definitive proof if semen exists in pre-cum. Basically, its function is to lubricate you during naked fun and clear a path for the mini-hims, so some researchers have found that there’s nothing there but the wetness.
But this is serious biz and you should consider there are many other opinions on the subject. Some other researchers argue that in reality, pre-ejac can contain spermies that could get you pregnant. There’s just no way to tell if each particular load is potent. It’s suspected that if it does have sperm, they’ve just been hanging out in the dudes peen since his last recent ejaculation, waiting for their big chance. And how are you going to keep tabs on all the times when he has wad wipe-outs without you? However, pre-ejaculate that does have sperm has been found to have less of those little swimmers than your average splooge. With only a few million sperm in pre-ejaculate, instead of the usual 100 million during orgasm, pregnancy is less likely, but not impossible.
For safety’s sake, some peeps recommend that if he pees before you have sexy times, all those little bros will get flushed out and render the pre-cum semen-free. But there’s no guarantee. And that won’t prevent the potential to spread an STD, so consider yourself warned! There is one way you can protect yourself from both the risk of STDs and pregnancy: condoms!
Now, as for the pre-e, consider it a reward for all your hard work! Just like how you can tell when a woman is turned on, he wouldn’t be wet if you weren’t driving him wild.
Hi, I’m Dr. V. I’m not a real doctor, I just play one on the Internet. What I am is a lady, a lady who is a fool for love! And I love nothing more than sex. My deepest desires have happily lead me on many adventures in the sack, but they have also, sadly, made me one of my gyno’s most valuable players. But I’ve lived to tell the tale(s)! So, from time to time, I will dish the dirt on everything from getting freaky to getting freaked out. And please, if you have a question, email me. You know I love to read your smut too!

I totally disagree with this portion of the piece, that’s just me.

It’s cowper’s fluid to ease the mobility of the sperm when the O eventually arrives.

i’ve been told i’m a heavier dripper than most but no one ever had any fear of pregnancy and i never thought about it. That fluid just made things easier for me.

I’ve heard that it’s safe, relatively anyway (and certainly not safe against STD’s) so long as he hasn’t ejaculated before that, then there are little sperm friends still in the gun that can be shot out. Though, if he ejaculates and then uses the bathroom, apparently that clears it out.
Like I said, this is just what I’ve heard, it could easily be false.
Also, like ECM, the bf disagreed with that statement.

I have a girlfriend that got pregnant via pre-cum…. Far fetched yet true.
She and her guy were fooling around in a teasing manner before she made a trip home (they were in college). There was a bit of tip action but that was the extent of it. The whole thing sounds like a form or torture that I can’t wrap my head around. But after conception, they decided that this brief interlude was when their baby was made.

I kno my body and when I’m HOT!!! i make what me and my girl call “messes” I cant really say i feel it happening but i kno when its over there it is. She doesnt seem to mind and thats always a plus. as far as gettin prego after it thats crazy! thats like, “i am the exception” kinda luck. It would really suck to get pregnant from a little foolin around especially if that was the extent of it, nothing more but i little bump and hump….i couldnt imagine even explaining that to anyone!

You absolutely can get pregnant from pre-cum. I work at Planned Parenthood and this is one of the biggest myths we try and address. The only way to guarantee that you won’t get pregnant from this without wearing a condom is to be on the pill. So yeah, don’t ever do the tip thing, or you could end up like that unlucky couple in justme’s story.

As a guy I can tell you that pre-cum can run into the real thing (sperm) without warning. Anybody who is trying the “pull it out before you ejaculate” game is playing Russian Roulette.
Even condoms and the pill are not 100% effective against pregnancy. The only sure way is the “V” word for the man.
At 35 I knew I didn’t want any more children and I wanted to be sure nobody forgot to take their pill so I had a vasectomy. Why should it always be the females responsibility to protect against unwanted pregnancy?

@CheeeeEEEEse you are so smart
He’s right- and it comes from Cowper’s gland, aka the bulbourethral gland, which is off the the seminal tract much closer to the penis than the testes, so when Dr. V is talking about the fluid taking on the sperm that’s “hanging out” its only what’s in the shaft if any. And they’re probably pretty stupid sperm, ie not motile or deformed and running out of food so I wouldn’t worry about pregnancy from it. Although I know I’ve heard of some freak story where its happened but I wouldn’t take that too seriously- its not the same thing as the first squirt (that shoots the farthest) that he may not be able to pull out in time for.

I think guys should/must feel something coming out! I’m not a guy but if something is dripping/leaking I’m sure they feel it. Not that it’s a bad thing, actually, I see it as a sign that things are going in the right direction. Now, if getting pregnant is not in your plans then I would not take a chance and wrap that baby up from the start.
